Pattinson Premiere
Bong Joon Ho‘s upcoming science fiction film, “Mickey 17,” is scheduled to debut in South Korean theaters on Feb. 28, preceding its global release by a week, Warner Bros. Korea said on Friday. The $118 million production is Bong’s first directorial effort since the Oscar-winning “Parasite.”
Pattinson is set to join Bong in Seoul on Jan. 20 to kick off the movie’s promotional tour. The duo will participate in a press conference and showcase exclusive footage at Cgv Yongsan.
Based on the 2022 novel “Mickey7” by Edward Ashton, the sci-fi thriller stars Pattinson an “expendable” employee named Mickey Barnes. In the novel, Mickey is sent on dangerous missions to colonize an ice planet. When one version of Mickey dies, a duplicate is created to replace him that retains most of his memories. The cast also includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.

Fox’s Gotham has hit their fourth season and is looking like what could be the most talked about season yet. And this could be for a number of reasons both good and bad. From the marketing to the story arc, there is already so much to be talked about and it’s only one episode in. Let’s get started shall we? Oh! And this will obviously contain spoilers.
When talking about the marketing for the current season, it’s pretty interesting. Since the early development of the series the first question among Bat-fans was “How are you going to have a Batman series without Batman?” Well now it’s almost looking like the bat may show up…kind of. At the end of season three, we get a tiny glimpse of what will come and we see Bruce (David Mazouz) taking matters into his own hands as he...

From the Dark Universe to the MonsterVerse, the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Warner’s rejuvenated DC Extended Universe – you can thank Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman movie for delivering the studio’s first bona fide critical hit – you don’t have to search too far to locate one of Hollywood’s interconnected franchises.
On the horror side of things, Warner Bros. has been making serious headway on its Conjuring universe in recent years, commissioning a full-blown sequel in The Enfield Poltergeist and multiple spinoffs. That expansion took the form of 2014’s Annabelle, John R. Leonetti’s horror prequel that scared up $256 million worldwide. An impressive feat, given it was tethered to a shoestring budget of just $6.5 million.
Hoping to catch lightning in the bottle once again is David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), who is at the helm of this year’s horror sequel, Annabelle: Creation. And so, following up on a...

Nearly a year ago - back in November of 2015 - we were smacked upside the head by the trailer for Andrey Kravchuk's Viking, a new historical epic from the producers of the international hit Night Watch movies. Thought that trailer was very much an early tease, meant to attract attention more than a year before the actual release date of the film, it was already packed to the gills with absolutely astounding footage that did a lot more than just whet the appetite. It left us positively ravenous. History is a symptom of our disease. From the time of heavy swords and dark laws of blood, when the pressure of great chaos gave rise to heroes. From the Dark Ages came the story that...

Episode VIII is due out in time for the Star Wars 40th anniversary. Here's what we know so far, plus a bit of speculation about its events.
Nb: The following contains potential spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and speculation about Episode VIII.
"In the middle act of a movie or a book or anything else, not much happens. It sort of evolves the story, makes the plot more complicated." - George Lucas on The Empire Strikes Back
Disney may have had a lot riding on Star Wars: The Force Awakens - essentially, the future of an entire franchise - but next year's Episode VIII brings potentially nail-biting risks of its own. It will, after all, have to follow on from the success of The Force Awakens - currently the third biggest film of all time in terms of ticket sales - and will also draw...

We've seen a ton of viking movies lately (which I'm totally down with), but Andrey Kravchuk's upcoming Russian epic Viking may have just thrown down the gauntlet in terms of bringing a truly epic vision to the screen.
Viking is yet another film that speaks to the quality of film and amazing technical achievement happening in Russian cinema right now. Sure, these films are being made with an eye towards being commercial, but, I mean, wow.
Synopsis:
History is a symptom of our disease. From the time of heavy swords and dark laws of blood, when the pressure of great chaos gave rise to heroes. From the Dark Ages came the story that changed the world forever.

Conor McMahon is no stranger here in Sitges. The Irish director already succeeded in winning the audience's affection back in 2012 with Stitches, a film that managed to get as much laughter as jumps and scares. This time he comes back to Sitges with From The Dark, a film that features a more classical and straightforward approach to the horror genre but still manages to offer some fresh ideas of his own. Sarah (Niamh Algar) and Mark (Stephen Cromwell) are a couple traveling through a remote rural area in Ireland on their way to a wedding, but somewhere along the way they take a wrong turn that leaves them completely lost. Mark decides to go searching for help, but it seems the only sign of civilization around is a nearby farm. But what they don't know is that...

Few directors create work as abstract and mysterious as David Lynch. From the dark surrealism of Eraserhead, to the narrative playfulness of Mulholland Drive, right through to the dense experimentation of Inland Empire, his is a filmography rife for picking apart and arguing over, from fans and critics alike.
Lynch is notorious for refusing to shed any light onto his original intentions and meanings, always maintaining the belief that it is more important that his audience interprets the work in their own way. He is even quoted as frequently saying that visual ideas just come to him, and that his films are therefore divorced from any measured overarching meaning. Infuriating though this may initially appear, it has resulted in some genuinely fascinating (and often unbelievably intricate and complex) theories as to the underlying concepts and themes behind his output.

It’s a familiar story: young people head into the wilderness for a peaceful getaway or a fun-filled adventure, but encounter horror instead, whether it be otherworldly creatures or an all-too-human killer. From there, it is a battle for survival--and all too often the heroes, with all their human follies and foibles, come up short in the face of evil. It’s a basic formula for fright that has been remixed by filmmakers time and time again, with varying results: recent standouts include Eden Lake (2008), which forced Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly to endure psychological and physical torture at the hands of some terrifying teenagers, and The Descent (2005), which stranded a team of spelunkers deep underground in cave populated by bloodthirsty creatures of the same mold as Gollum--if he had rabies. From the Dark does not quite reach those films' heights, but it is solidly scary, more so than many...

A young couple find car trouble in the countryside of Ireland to be the least of their worries when the sun sets and horror rises in Conor (Stitches) McMahon's From The Dark. With his latest film now available on Blu-ray, DVD, VOD, and Digital Download from Dark Sky Films, we caught up with McMahon, who talked about putting an Irish twist on creatures of the night, filming a memorable scene in which a spider walks across lead actress Niamh Algar's face, and much more.
From The Dark takes place in the fog-shrouded Irish countryside, where there are real-life backstories of preserved bodies found in the bogs. Did these stories inspire From The Dark in any way?
Conor McMahon: Well, what I was inspired by was the fact that a lot of these bodies uncovered in the bog were found tied up with fatal wounds. These people hadn’t just fallen into the bog,...

Director/writer: Conor McMahon. Cast: Niamh Algar and Stephen Cromwell. From the Dark is a horror film from Conor McMahon (Stitches). Set in the Irish countryside, this film brings a nosferatu-like creature out of the bog and a couple is terrorized throughout much of the film. Though, this viewer felt considerably less fright. Still, the film is well shot and the use of minimal lighting helped amplify some tension. From the Dark is an intimate affair. It is also a minimalist one, in that there are few characters and few settings. Also, the pacing is very slow and action scenes are repetitive. In the end, From the Dark recycles too many action scenes and the film plays out too simply. The film begins with Sarah (Niamh Algar) and Mark (Stephen Cromwell). They are a couple on holiday, in the Irish countryside. They take a wrong turn, down a winding road.

Liv transfers her residency to the coroner’s office for access to the brains she must reluctantly eat, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she now solves homicides to quiet the voices in her head.

While From The Dark is most certainly an “economical” creature feature, this backcountry survival story is a generic horror watch to the core. Creator Conor McMahon is the mad genius behind one of my favorite recent horror films, the pun-tastic slasher romp Stitches, but his abandonment of jovial comedy does nothing for this straight-laced vacation-gone-wrong scenario. With the purest of intentions, but a noticeably restricting production value, McMahon is backed into a corner while bringing to life an idea that’s otherwise fresh and welcoming. Utilizing two actors, one monster and a ton of night-vision, From The Dark is able to muster little more than a shiver, pacing through the same dangerous scenarios so many films have captured in a more invigorating light.
