I'm gonna focus on the survival mode, because I played it way more than the story, and I kinda feel like it is the main part of the game for me. In my opinion the gameplay is great, the soundtrack is too. The game captures the feeling of you being completely alone in the wild and it's entire atmosphere is based on that, you are alone in this cold, empty world, trying to survive for as long as you can. I also loved the arstyle, it fits in perfectly with the rest of the game.

I loved the exploration aspect, reading notes you can find around. Most of the time you are walking around alone, only a wolf, a deer or a rabbit might come by sometimes. The only thing you hear is your character's footsteps and sometimes a bit of music. This is exactly how I imagine "The Quiet Apocalypse".

This game has a few difficulty options, I mostly play on Voyageur or Stalker. The Long Dark gives you a great challenge too. It's not too hard, but you HAVE to try to survive and the best way to do it is learning from your past mistakes.

I would recommend playing this if you like calm, atmospheric survival games.

When I heard about this game I was very skeptical to pick it up. When I found out the only obstacles in this game were, a couple of animals, the cold, and resources, I thought it sounded way too simple to be in-depth and challenging. Oh was I ever wrong. This game has a great survival mode and plenty of environmental storytelling and exploring. Though lack of enemy variety worried me the wolves actually are a very fun enemy to encounter as I've experienced many great moments seemed to be ripped straight out of Hollywood, where for example, you're in the dark with a dim lighted lantern and their is wolves growling around u from every each direction and all u have is a rifle with few ammo to spare. Moments like these were the highlight of the game for me. I was also worried the cold would be a burden as it would deviate me away from exploring but it wasn't too bad especially with custom difficulty where u can tweak certain elements such as how cold it is. The story mode to the game is very good for a small indie company and I am sure that I will spend many hours in this atmospheric world that Hinterland Studio created for us.

This is a fantastic game with simple but great ideas.

This game is an art. Buy it to support independent developers and studios.

This is the best pure survival game ever made or at least in the least on console.

Horrible unbelievable characters that seem like shells of people. The game tells you the story instead of showing it. Does not even attempt to explain and teach how to use the complicated crafting and management of items system. Almost no gameplay in the first 10 minutes. Horrible game, dont waste your time.

THE LONG DARK (2014) is a really fun and potentially challenging survival game, taking place in the vast, frozen Northern Wilderness. There a multiple difficulty modes as well, making it more challenging if one chooses.

"Flying a routine mail delivery in the Northern wilderness, bush pilot William Mackenzie witnesses mysterious lights flaring across the sky. Suddenly, his DeHavilland Beaver loses power and crashes into the dense mountain forest below."

As a survival game, The Long Dark really stands tall, offering a really intense pure wilderness survival experience. While there are no zombies or cannibals in this one, the game is still very good.
