affair with a stranger
Director Roy Rowland should have stuck with westerns and crime pics because, on the basis of this offering, he's way in over his head with the urban marital problems genre. From the trying too hard to be cute News Years Eve meeting to the not very dramatically gripping domestic conflicts (gambling for him, inability to bear kids for her) to the eminently predictible, lets wrap up everything in a nice pink bow ending this film veritably screams boredom. And the multiple flashbacks from the couple's not very interesting friends do nothing to enliven the sluggish proceedings. Give it a C.
PS.. I buy Vic Mature as a playwright even less than I do Dabbs Greer as a novelist.
