Christopher Lambert, Weronika Rosati, and Gianni Capaldi in It's Not Over (2022)

Review by thinmude

It's Not Over

3/10

An odd movie that's pretty flat with weird turns

To start this off, if you're watching this movie based on the posters and trailers, you're likely going to be disappointment. Both sets of materials suggest some type of revenge movie around a husband getting revenge on a serial killer wife or something... that's not exactly what you're getting here.

What you're ACTUALLY getting is quite a sloppily put together story, of a psycho killer wife suffering from hallucinations of a previous victim, and the family of said victim slowly figuring out what's going on. On paper, the story sounds okay, but the execution is very uneven, with characters behaving strangely, weird shifts in tone and direction, and parts of the story that come off as plot conveniences.

For example, it starts off very dramatic (with a domestic abuse situation), then it almost turns into some twisted rom com after that (complete with a crazy dream sequence), and then it becomes a serious detective-type thing with ghost elements. It also has a very terrible ending that, had it not been for slotting in ONE scene with a specific character, I would have called it a complete butt pull!

The movie is also edited pretty weirdly. The first part of the movie has moments where it would just VERY awkwardly cut away to the next scene, with no clear transition, and it confuses you; there's a part of the movie where one character tricks the wife into taking a shower for a long time, implying that they're going to investigate something... AND THEN IT IMMEDIATELY CUTS TO THEM SLEEPING!?!?! This stops by the second part of the movie, where it feels like things just go on for way too long at times... not helped by some characters having a tendency to stare at people...

But the biggest crime is that the movie is kind-of boring; outside of an unintentionally funny murder scene, some goofy shots, as well as a weird ending, the movie just kind-of meanders around boringly and the acting is boring. The acting isn't really good, but I blame this on bad direction; it's either boring and phoned in, like Christopher Lambert's performance, or overdone, like the psycho wife in parts.

Overall, this is not really a good movie; it has unintentionally hilarious moments and it has some production value here and there, but they're not enough to save this snooze-fest of a movie.
