Mircea Albulescu, Leopoldina Balanuta, and Maria Ploae in Dincolo de pod (1976)

Review by Kirpianuscus

Dincolo de pod

admirable exploration of Mara univers

I was seduced, as high school student, by Ioan Slavici novel inspiring this film.

I saw the film as far adaptation, at the first sight, by the images proposed by book. But Mircea Veroiu, like Calin Ghibu, offers precise definition of a world dominated by money, cold pragmatism, intense dramas.

The beauty of this film is reflected by inspired cinematography but it is just remarkable for the wise reflection of nuances crafting each character.

Scene by scene, I admired, I admire yet, the atmosphere and profound inspired acting, the touch of emotions and the proper definition of characters. Mara proposed by Leopoldina Balanuta is a real impressive one, like the honest, admirable - precise crafted portrait of Persida created, with grace, by Maria Ploae or Mother Aegidia created by Irina Petrescu.

The soul of a lost world, Transylvanian life in the beginning of XX century, a love story and the fights against life challenges of a widow and the relations in a small comunity , being bricks of destinies.
