Grace Sol and Jermaine 'Maino' Coleman in A Love Story from the Streets (2023)

Review by beepstutu

A Love Story from the Streets

B rate, with over the top acting

Just not a great movie, mediocre acting, mediocre story. Very low budget, that's not always a bad thing, but in this case it made for bad performances. I can't help but feel like the main girl was a Nicki Minaj wannabe. I wasn't overly invested in the story as I wasn't engaged by the main characters or didn't see any genuine character development. I wanted to like this, I really did, Ive been wanting a good love story that didn't come from a fairytale, privileged setting, one that showed genuine portrayal of average people falling in love while facing the struggle, together. This just did not deliver. Also, it almost feels like it's trying way to hard to show Black Americans in a negative light, where is the genuine black love stories that uplifts people, not just stories filled of drug addiction, stripping and violence. It's one thing to portray the struggle in a realistic way, or to capture a real picture about life in the streets, but this only helping to reinforce bigot opinions about people of colour.
