Quite a stylish horror movie...
I revisited the 1997 horror movie "Wishmaster" again here in 2023, as I haven't seen the movie in ages. It is a movie that I have seen many times, so the storyline was not unknown to me.
The storyline in "Wishmaster", as written by Peter Atkins, is a rather enjoyable and entertaining one. It is a very interesting approach to the tale of the djinn and the genie stories that we know. I like how the djinn in the movie is an evil creature bent on causing havoc and harvesting souls. And the way that the wishes granted end up being catastrophic, if not downright lethal, to the wisher is just such a nice twist.
The acting performances in "Wishmaster" are good. And while the movie is lead by Tammy Lauren (playing Alexandra), then "Wishmaster" is really Andrew Divoff's movie, he is phenomenal in the role of the djinn and really owns the character and make it outstanding and memorable. Something that impresses me about "Wishmaster" is the sheer number of horror icons they got to show up in the movie, with the likes of Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, Tony Todd and Angus Scrimm.
Visually then "Wishmaster" is good. There are a lot of great special effects throughout the 90 minutes that the movie run for. And these special effects really help to bring the djinn and the effects of his granted wishes to life on the screen. Thumbs up to the special effects department working on the movie for that accomplishment.
If you enjoy stylized horror movies, then "Wishmaster" is certainly a movie well-worth watching. I have watched the movie many times since back in 1997, and it is a movie that I warmly recommend.
My rating of "Wishmaster" lands on a seven out of ten stars.
