Adolf Hitler in Hitler: The Lost Tapes of the Third Reich (2023)

Review by rhb-51699

Hitler: The Lost Tapes of the Third Reich

10/10

Fascinating glimpses beyond the usual cliches

So much has been written about Hitler and the Nazis, it's sometimes hard to see beyond the caricatures. He was evil, the devil, inhuman, incomprehensible, mad, insane... yet so often the standard narrative struggles to create the context, explain the circumstances or explore the man and his motives.

This excellent series does just that. Through first hand accounts from those who actually knew him, and by showing translations of his speeches (so often presented without translations, instead just showing his mad rantings) we are given a glimpse into the bizarre, twisted world view of this strange, soulless, narcissistic man and the turbulent times that allowed him to thrive.

The parallels to today's turbulent times, and our own strange, soulless, narcissistic man are obvious and yet all the more frightening given how this series demonstrates how one seemingly small piece of craziness, unchecked and unhindered - encouraged even - when added to more and more small pieces of craziness can end up creating one giant-sized catastrophe.
