Francisco Dañobeitía, Ana Burgos, and Marcelo Gutiérrez in Emmène-moi voir la mer (2021)

Review by laduqesa

Emmène-moi voir la mer

1/10

Turgid and boring

This was like wading through quicksand. The acting, dialogue, plot were all conspiring to drag me down into oblivion. I have to admit that I switched off after forty five minutes. In fact, at twenty minutes I received a phone call I had to take and was tempted even then not to un pause. The film's only seventy five minutes long but there was no way I was going to continue.

So Vicente and Diego were "in a relationship" were they? That's what the storyline says. Up to when I switched off they had snogged a couple of times and had had one fumbling vanilla experience between them. Unless things sped up in the final thirty minutes, then I can't see how the interaction between the lads and Lorena could develop.

Peripheral characters were either irrelevant or caricatures such as Senora Silvia.

And I HATE artiness for its own sake. What was the point of the women bedecked in frilly frocks traipsing into the sea? They appeared to have no relevance to anything or anyone.

This was such an awful, talentless, grinding mess. I'm kicking myself for sticking with it for so long. I should have switched off after the phone call.
