Wu Lin You Xia Qi (2023)

Review by hanalisss

Wu Lin You Xia Qi

7/10

Loads of potential but the execution wasn't there

Brilliant concept, disastrous execution.

Bad editing, way too short for such complex storiy The story doesn't run smoothly and consecutively at all, specially at the beginning. Get ready to be really confused for the first 6/7 episodes.

It jumps from the past to the present randomly and it feels like there's 626376183837183 scenes missing.

There's things we should be able to see and experience with the characters, but we only hear about them after they have passed.

I would have been magnificent to have known more about each of the characters, specially the main leads. Why the fl got all her martial arts skills, all her training and learning, or the male lead's past, how he got to his position and everything he got through with his curse. Just generally, the development of their characters and backstories. This story deserved a lot more depth.

If you manage to get through it the first half it starts getting better and the storyline is more consequential and make more sense.

The last few episodes are better written and they contain scenes with more intimacy, feelings and actual conversations between the leads which was very lacking most of the series from the beginning.

Characters wise, Female lead is very lacking. She isn't smart or witty, and seems like there's no pattern for her actions, she is supposed to be this super warrior/goddess but she appears to be weak, naive and non existent personality.

It's only towards the end that everything is explained and her actions make sense, but the majority of the show, is a bit shallow. Her acting is good though.

The male lead it didn't get to me at all. He has ONE facial expression the whole series, even when he was supposed to be angry or sad his face would not change. Lacked passion and emotions and I honestly couldn't see any chemistry between them.

The drama has potential but it just doesn't reach it. Good enough for a lighthearted watch.
