Jan Svankmajer: The Complete Short Films (2007)

Jan Svankmajer: The Complete Short Films

10/10

A masterpiece!

A masterpiece that must be watched and shared!

Jan Svankmajer's "Dimensions of dialogue" in particular is absolutely amazing!

Svankmajer is a surrealist artist working with the stop motion technique, for many years he was prohibited to work on filmmaking from his government and instead explored the tactile world, even creating tactile poems.

His wife, Eva Svankmajerova has unfortunately past away but she was a prolific surrealist artist as well, a painter and also the one in charge of crafting the wardrobe for Svankmajers films.

He usually doesn't use soundtracks, only worked with one composer until he died, but instead focuses on using really interesting sound design which is extremely full of texture, creating clear tactile sensations.

Svankmajer has a particular view in this world and particularly in cinema, which is why I consider this work a classic and very important to watch, enjoy, reflect and learn from him.

-Diego Torres.
