Before I Die (2003)

Review by gacsogergely

Before I Die

7/10

Not half bad

So, anthology, and microbudget. Things you have to tolerate for this film are part of it. On the other hand if you can look over that the actors are not even acting, or in case of the lead man in the forst story overacting as heck, it has its charms. Oh, the director, or the head of the casting, or whoever likes chubby women. If that's an absolute nono for you, that's your problem.

Now the first story has a certain charm to it in its awkward dialogue and hamfisted forshadowing. It's quick, it's kinda funny. I like it. If you have problem with the lead woman, just say pheromones. I say it was perfect casting for the role.

The second story could be valued more than when it came out, because it is very much like a proto-Paranormal Activity. Btw, it is nice to see at once, that people when things go awry, GTFO.

The third ... story is more like two segment without much of a story. The first segment is assembled from fast, random kills, with pretty good core to its budget. The second segment has a scantily clothed female wlaking around her appartment, with a stalker already inside.

The framing ... works. There is an idea of a story there, the exectution is very ambiguous though. But for what it is, and that this film was amongst 50 "home made"-quality films, I was pretty entertained.
