Ayee Milan Ki Raat (1991)

Review by nadkarnisumeet

Ayee Milan Ki Raat

6/10

Melodious snake saga!

Aayee Milan Ki Raat review :

Starting as a routine class divide love story, Aayee Milan Ki Raat takes a "serpentine" twist in the second hour when the hero-heroine turn out to be naag-nagin reborn as humans to fulfill their unfinished milan from past janam. An evil tantrik (Paresh Rawal) separates the two lovers by turning one in to a snake at sunrise and the other at sunset alternatively so they can never be together in human form. Ouch!!

What worked fabulously for Aayee Milan Ki Raat were the chartbuster songs by Anand Milind and the low budget production which steered the movie to a reasonable success at the box office. The music scored high on the popular radio program Binaca Geetmala specially : the title song - 'Kitne Dino Ke Baad Hai Aayee', the fun and frolic - 'Kala Shah Kala', rain drenched - 'Sawaan Ka Mahina Aaya' and the naagin wala dance - 'Tune Pyar Ki Been Bajai'.

All the above numbers were super hits and producer T-Series made big bucks selling their audio cassettes.

Avinash Wadhawan and Shaheen played the janmon ke pyaase premi jodi. Not many know that Avinash's role was first offered to Salman Khan but he refused it after becoming an overnight sensation with Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The doe-eyed beauty Shaheen, who had debuted in Mukul S. Anand's Maha-Sangram (1990), got the main lead role here and her performance was decent though it didn't help her career in any way.

Today, Aayee Milan Ki Raat is remembered for its songs only. The snake saga and the outcome of the long lost lovers is long forgotten!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
