Kang Han-na, Bae Suzy, Nam Joo-hyuk, and Kim Seon-ho in Start-Up (2020)

Review by phd_travel

Start-Up

9/10

Strong from start to finish - modern and uplifitng

From the strong start to the complete satisfying ending this is a fun and inspiring show. A clever combination of the ups and downs of start up business with romance and nice characters. Each of their learning experiences feels like a valuable lesson to the viewer. The love triangle isn't overdone and both are nice guys but it's clear who is the one. The first episode is one of the more involving and touching openings in K drama with an emotionally gripping back story. Shout out to Kim Joo Hun as Seo Dal Mi's father and Nam Da Reum as younger Han Ji Pyeong and grandma Kim Hae Sook who any K drama fan will know. A real 2020s heroine, Suzy Bae as Seo Dal Mi looks pretty here and intelligent. She doesn't overact. Nam Joo Hyuk as Nam Do San is right for the role tall enough to be a love interest but slightly dorky as the nerdy character should be. Kim Seon Ho has a breakout role here as an investor who is blunt but right. The sets are colorful and modern and the business ideas are made to feel interesting and relevant. Although it does show 2 men rescuing/protecting a woman it feels more of an equal contribution than in past K dramas. Amusing romance between CLOY actor Yoo Soo Bin and Stephanie Lee. Funny use of big hands.
