Lost in Brainland

7/10

Great doc on a 90s cheesefest

The filmmakers of Evil Ed made this documentary themselves, instead of waiting for someone else to make it.

The gang explain that they made a film called "Highlight" which never got finished, but clips are shown. Which lead them to make Evil Ed.

They explain that filming was meant to last four weeks, but lasted for nearly two years due to their inexperience with filmmaking.

The original cut of the movie was a disaster and they had to reshoot scenes to make the movie more action packed. The hospital climax was filmed a year later.

Then they talk about voice actors from Sweden's radio station "Bandit Radio" we're brought in to dub the voices. No info on Bill Moseley sadly.

Then they talk about trying to get the film released, which was only released in four cinemas and then went straight to video.

However, that's when the cult following happened and the cast and crew got recognised for it. They haven't done much since this film, but Goran Lundstrom got an Oscar nomination for best make up in 2019.

The most annoying interviewee is the actress who played Mel. All she says is "I don't remember anything at all." I HATE it when actors and actresses tell jokey misinformation like that!

Another problem is that when someone is interviewed, their names appear, but not their occupation. Normally, it would say "Name" and then "Director" below it. Here, you have to check the credits to see which crew member did what.

Overall, the doc is very long, but if you're a fan of this movie and want to know about its troubled production, check it out.
