I think because we're so cynical nowadays that it's easy to dismiss this movie. Sure, the film might be silly, contrived, and a bit stupid. But it's not harmfully so. The chemistry between the main two characters is very sweet and believable and that's really what makes the movie work so well. There are some things like the main speech at the end that was kind of silly, but asides from that I liked it.
