Billy Dee Williams and Ken Wahl in Double Dare (1985)

Review by VetteRanger

Double Dare

7/10

Long forgotten

"Double Dare" ran a limited series in April and May of 1985 -- six episodes -- then disappeared. It was up against "The Fall Guy" and "Highway to Heaven", two established and popular shows. I can't find ANY background information on the series. I'm assuming it was a limited test that wasn't picked up for the next season.

The concept was similar to robert Wagner's "It Takes a Thief" from 1968-1970. Williams' character is a thief caught by a cop and given a deal -- work for the cops instead of going to jail. If I recall, the deal was for a fixed number of assignments, after which he was supposed to be off the hook.

After 34 years, I can't remember that much about the shows themselves. I don't remember having any serious complaint with them. I think I would have watched the series the next fall if it had continued.

Williams was coming off his Star Wars fame in "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi", and was a hot property. He was charming in the series. If they had picked a less crowded time slot, who knows what might have happened.
