Want to like it more
Just discovered this show today. I have YouTubeTV which just added the Travel Channel. (Holy Moly, TTC has a boatload of ghost shows! lmao!)
Anywho!
I really like this show but two things stick out:
A. Why do they consistently hire overly young or skinny women for the reenactments that don't reflect who the real person is? Real women are actors, too. And before the snarky thoughts (I know and love my interwebz peeps) I'd always been a skinny gal. So it's not that. The contrast between the men & women is jarringly obvious and highlights the sneaky extent of problems Hollywood has with women.
B. The actual footage lmao! So we have these reenactors running around with cameras. Johh Hines ("Hit 'em with the HEIN!") gets pinned up against the wall by a demon. The other guy he is with sees this and feels helpless. Then the "actual footage" is the reaction shot?! LOLOLOL. I'm yelling "SHOW US THE DEMON PINNING HIM AGAINST THE WALL!!!!"
I want to like this program more. I can deal with the narrator (he reminds me of how the People's Court VO guy does a low growl whisper of the cases coming into court, so it makes me LOL) Even the same investigators doesn't bother me. But the stuff that is telling me: "We think our viewers are stupid" is taking me out of the fun.
Look, I know what this is. It's just silly stories, overblown, likely 90% untrue. But I want to immerse into it and have fun. Hire realistic actresses and don't show "actual footage" of mundane moments directly after an exciting reenactment of NO actual footage.
ps. It's funny watching John Hines give very calm comments about how scared he was. Reminds me of overly calm John Hein of the Howard Stern Show where "Hit 'em with the Hein!" started.
