Nguoi Bât Tu (2018)

Review by phanthinga

Nguoi Bât Tu

7/10

God dammit Victor Vu not again

The Immortal is the most ambitious movie from director Victor Vu who make a name for himself for pushing the boundaries of my movie industry with his genre bending movies and personally, I am very grateful for that because watching this movie now I can see how much love and care he put into it to make one hell of a black magic movie that in term of acting, directing and cinematography I think this is the best from him thus far. I loved the first and the second arc unconditionally because it so simple yet effective to set up the tone and mood of the movie up until the third arc, then it all just fell apart. For me The third arc maybe messy but still works to some degree with a happy ending but because The Immortal refused to give the audience a proper conclusion to the story and end it with a pretentious dream or reality kind of ending it make the whole movie look pointless in my eyes. Somehow this movie took the director 5 years and 31 times to editing the script and for him this is the best version of the movie so in a way I kind of glad that he went with this one because my brain cannot imagine how much god-awful The Immortal can get with those rejected scripts
