Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988)

Review by ericstevenson

Swamp Diamonds

Mystery Science Theater 3000

10/10

"This is better than being slapped!"

It seems a bit weird that I would give this episode a perfect score seeing as how it didn't really have that many funny moments. I'm still going to give it the full score, because they actually address romance on the show for once! It seemed like such an obvious thing, given how they make fun of pretty much every plot element. I guess Gypsy's the only candidate as Tom Servo dates her. Yeah, it doesn't end up well, but I knew this would happen on the show eventually. The invention with TV's Frank was really creative as it was a TV showing what would happen if he and Dr. Forrester did other things.

I love the date short that preceded the movie. I especially liked, "Maybe this is where he gets his ideas?" followed by "The lunch menu"? Another good one was, "Jeff, would you quit stalking me?". The movie had good stuff too. I loved, "Oh, the two plots are on a collision course!". Another great one was, "What? Oh, I've been shot", as well as, "Get over here. We just want to kill you for a minute". ****
