Wontideu

7/10

What would you do for your son?

Jung Hye-in is a very famous and popular Korean actress who, out of the blue, decides to retire. But then her son is kidnapped. The kidnapper's ransom: that she makes a 10-episodes long reality show on her husband's TV station. If the ratings drop below 20%... her son will be killed.

"Wanted" is a very entertaining Korean drama, with lots of action and tension, some humor, and more than acceptable acting, with a high-concept idea that grabs the viewer's attention from the very beginning.

The story is quite original, even if outside the basic premise it follows the rule of: you don't know who to trust. The kidnapper has a secret motive, yes, but everyone else seems to be hiding something too, from the show's producer to Jung Hye-in. The show does a great job in keeping the viewer guessing, though, about everyone's motives, and about who the kidnapper may be. The story, sadly, becomes over-convoluted in some moments, and when the truth starts to be revealed it is not as interesting as the set-up (something that these kind of high-concept shows have a problem with).

Nonetheless, the quality of the show is high, it has good action scenes, and surprising twists (one or two too many). And it is not very long, just lasting 16 episodes. If you watch it, you will be for a fun ride with Jung Hye-in and her desperate search for her son.
