Spyfall

Okay porno spy warm-up for Dick Bush's "Monarch"

It's not parody and not merely ripoff, but Dick Bush's well-made spy feature "Spyfall" isn't one of his best either. He had always been interested in action porn (I'm going to be watching his early "Girls with Guns" features soon), and reached maturity in the genre with the highly recommended "Monarch".

Ryan Ryder is convincing as Matthew Cable, fortunately more like Bond than Matt Helm. Working with an obviously limited budget (video with the XXX sequences included clocks just under 2 hours) the action tale has pace but not that much excitement in the usual save the world format.

Danny D is cast as the not-so-mad scientist, a greedy biophysicist as he claims to have developed a deadly formula with which bad guys could rule the world (as if the bad guys don't already rule it). Instead it is all a ruse to make money off the fear generated.

Amica Bentley is the good girl, cast as Danny's sister and refreshing for Brit porn where the same old faces usually pop up. Jasmine Jae, Ryder's real-life wife, is back again as a villain and other porn diversion is provided by busty Brooklyn Blue and mixed-combo specialist Jasmine Webb.

Both action and sex are competently handled, but there are some extra touches which lift "Spyfall" out of the ordinary. A title song written and performed by Mariah Vandeniele is terrific, good enough for a real Bond assignment. And the title sequence is worthy of comparison with Maurice Binder's classic achievements.

I had to order this DVD from Europe -it's a shame that a lot of Brit Porn at its best only gets to America as dumped remainders.
