Yam yeung lo 6: Hung chow hon (1999)

Review by OllieSuave-007

Yam yeung lo 6: Hung chow hon

8/10

A chilling murder supernatural thriller!

This is the sixth film in Hong Kong's "Troublesome Night" movie series, and the first to have its own continuous plot - no anthology of short stories. Here, we got four tabloid reporters who stalk model Kwok Siu Heung (Gigi Lai) to get the scoop on her life for their magazine. Heung recently broke up with her boyfriend and later commits suicide. Despite her tragic death, the reporters callously post photos of her suicide in their magazine and what later results are bad supernatural repercussions.

It's a movie with lesser comedy and with more dark tones than the previous Troublesome Night movies. The serial murders and the investigating cops make this a suspenseful murder thriller, but with a supernatural touch. This gave the film a clever and intriguing twist, as the ghost and murder mystery elements blended together very well. The acting was dramatic, great and realistic. Louis Koo portrayed the gloomy but determined cop - his presence gave this film almost a film-noir type setting. Gigi Lai plays a beautiful but menacing ghost and Amanda Lee gave a haunting performance.

It's a good movie with a haunting music score, an eerie atmosphere, creepy ghost action, hair-raising thrills, chilly crimes and edge-of-your-seat surprises.
