Ring Master (2014)

Review by nairtejas

Ring Master

4/10

Incoherent Strips Of Comedy & Drama. ♦ 40%

It wouldn't be wise if I start the review by using the words: clichéd, melodrama, slapstick & illogic. Because, what else can you expect from a film which depends heavily on dogs to tickle our bone?

Dileep's last 2-3 films have been utter bores. They were all heavy on farce. This one is no different where he seems to be reprising his role of a dog-lover from the hit CID Moosa. Basically, depicting a rags-to- riches story, Dileep's character first plays a dog caretaker, then a trainer and eventually comes out as a hero. Along with Aju Varghese & Kalabhavan Shajon, Dileep succeeds in creating humor in the first half, which is terribly long.

Then, Honey Rose enters the scene as a hot antagonist. Keerti Suresh still needs lots of work to do with her stances, acting & many other factors. Supporting cast is good and they contribute to most of the humor while Dileep acts foolhardy till the end. His acting has lost the panache lately. Everything he did on-screen looked like as if he was bitten by some drunk bug.

The story is plain stupid but it showers light upon some causes - love for animals, relationships, etc.. And the plot hops from one scene to another like the characters change sunglasses. It has ridiculous screenplay which aggravates the experience. Many plot points played a dead end and the characters only concentrate on one specific line while many plot lines had been introduced in the first half. The problem also lies at the huge number of characters, which could have been done away without.

But I got to appreciate Dileep's & the whole crew's efforts to have sketched up a story about animals and the use of CGI is appreciable, as well.

BOTTOM LINE: A more credible story could have made it a mega hit. I wonder how many days it took for the crew to shoot the whole thing. Attention to tiny details would also have strengthened the entertainment factor. However, it is watchable. And if you have kids, have a look. Beware, there are slight adult/vulgar references.
