Hansika Motwani, Soori, Sivakarthikeyan, and Vamsi Krishna in Maan Karate (2014)

Review by SivakumarBalachandran

Maan Karate

5/10

Another sports melodrama tamil film with less entertainment quotient

Sivakarthikeyan's Maan karate has got nothing fresh in the story, romance, comedy and logic.

Plot: It is the usual repeated cliché of Tamil cinema where the hero takes up sport for love and without struggle he wins at last. Here it's an over rated and excess melodrama. The movie has mixed the plot concepts of Rajini's "Baba" and Ravi's "M.Kumaran" and some portions from "Ethir neechal". At last giving as a mixed cinema which fails to engage or entertain. The comedy crackers what we expect from Siva was less in this movie. Towards the end it was dragging and boring.

Cast: Siva as Peter has failed to meet his current over-hyped status and makes us feel like he was better in VPVS, Ethir Neechal and Marina. Hansika Motwani as Yazhini who has considerably lost weight and comes with her new looks as a doll and nothing much to act. The chemistry did not seem to be working as well. Other cast which includes Sathish and his friends were used in the story track considerably. Soori and Shayaji shinde were not used properly and were unnecessary inclusions. Vamsi Krishna as the usual opposite villain boxer looses the match after his years of practice to his opponent who does not even know boxing is sports. Overall it is a below average Rom-Com flick. Watch it if you are die hard Siva fan miss it otherwise.
