Summer Session

Pointless sex film, made worse by garbled DVD reissue

Andrea True fans are ill-served by SUMMER SESSION, a lousy vehicle for her (touted in the advertising as a followup to CHRISTY, another sub-par movie) made far worse by Alpha Blue Archives' totally messed-up DVD version. There's no excuse for this ineptitude.

When I was a 16mm film collector during the 1970s, I would often receive an "odd reel" or miscellaneous film fragment, sometimes appearing upside down/backwards on screen when projected. Even as a novice I learned through trial and error that two or three rewinds could carefully put it right. So when I see similarly junked-up versions released on DVD one wonders about the mental capacity of the video distributors in charge.

For SUMMER SESSION, three separate sex scenes running roughly five minutes each are repeated verbatim later in the film, one played twice back to back. How this escaped detection before completing the video transfer is mind-boggling, but results in a 47-minute film running 63 minutes long.

Also disturbing is the placement of an introductory scene, where college prof Andrea True is invited over to her student's apartment to borrow a volume of Greek poetry about halfway through the film -it couldn't be more obvious.

Even correcting for these mistakes, the picture is really no more than a string of stag loops set on a campus. Andrea as MILF services her handsome studly student (Paul Scharf) a couple of times. He is truly an abysmal actor, who can't remember lines or ad lib -leaving Andrea to finish his sentences or thoughts for him.

Second couple on a water bed consists of a mustachioed guy and early hardcore porn star Orita de Chadwick, looking like she spent a few months in a concentration camp, with her ribcage sticking out of an emaciated frame. I don't know what happened to the once-beautiful actress, but her career came to a close soon after this picture.

Third couple is of interest since the short guy looks like Jimmy Fallon sporting a big dick. The second couple return (actually merely a continuation of their scene) when another girl arrives for a threesome.

This boring assemblage of XXX footage has a stupid Muzak score featuring an instrumental version of "Suicide is Painless" from MASH, played many times.
