The 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards (2009)

Review by Sylviastel

The 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards

8/10

They could have used the time wisely!

Unlike the prime time Emmy awards, the daytime Emmys are only 2 hours and in prime time. Let's not forget that they are a couple of months late because none of the major networks wanted to broadcast it. Like the Tony Awards get more viewers than the Daytime Emmys, I think not. The two hour award show was hosted by Vanessa Williams who was singing a little too much of the time. There was a silly photography sequence of the fashions which was just ridiculous and a waste of time. There was no memoriam and there wasn't last year as well to remember those lost like Eileen Herlie, Beverlee McKinsey, Shell Kepler, and others in the daytime part of the business. They did pay tribute to Guiding Light by having Betty White, television legend, pay a fan tribute. Who knew that she was a fan? She could have been on the show. The clips were nice and the cast made their final curtain call but as Betty White said "All good things come to an end" and Guiding Light is no more.
