Iván Arana, Rodrigo Corea, Ximena Romo, and Christian Vazquez in Oveja negra (2009)

Review by Humberto_Flores

Oveja negra

9/10

GREAT! The best Mexican film in years!

From "Y Tu Mama También", to "Amores Perros", Mexican cinema is one of the finest worldwide. Many Mexican talents continue their path through Hollywood, their debuts being praised for their originality, their superb acting or just because they were different.

This is the case of "Oveja Negra", THE most entertaining Mexican film I've seen in years. A clever script, wonderful direction, excellent performances (The very best being Jeronimo, the bad guy, and the weakest being the girl) and a simple, original and VERY funny story makes this movie worth every penny.

The story tells the story of José (Christian Vasquez), a young boy who works at a Ranch, and his best friend Kumbia (Rodrigo Corea). Together, they are planning to escape and look for a better life. Eeverything is going great, until Jeronimo, the son of their boss (who is always looking for ways to make things worse for them), starts suspecting about their secret plan. To make things more complicated, Maria (Ximena Romo), Jose's platonic love, arrives to town.

In conclusion, this is a wonderful film, something you should definitely look for. I had the chance of seeing the film at the Guadalajara Film Festival, several months ago, with the Director and Cast making an introduction to the film. Undoubtedly, I'll be watching it again when it's released in theaters.

Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz is a name we'll surely hear from in the future, as maybe the next big Mexican talent.
