Daniel Martínez, Ludwika Paleta, and Christina Pastor in Corazón de melón (2003)

Review by DarthLeo

Corazón de melón

14-march 2009

Definitely one of the worst Mexican movies in the late years. Its the first movie of an director who doesn't know the genre he is working on. An absolute lack of rhythm and true comedy. The events come very easily and fast one after another. the writer fails to make us care about the relation between a young fat girl (and not charismatic) who lies every time and a man who seems to acept her no matter what. we never know why the characters do what they doing at all. why he loves her?, why her friend helps her and makes a unbelievable plan? why his dad trows his cell to the water? big questions that only the creators know. The acting is terrible, in fact thers no direction on actors who mostly come from TV, particularly the leading roles have simply no chemistry between them. Ludwika Paleta is interesting in a unexpected role as the villain but the director's unability makes her look ridiculous in the movie's climax. In the end is only a Mexican Hollywood-wanna-be comedy that simply fails for missing the most important thing; make audience laugh and care about the characters.
