Huckabee (2008)

Review by redryan64

Huckabee

8/10

Well now, Schultz, here's one way to keep former Presidential Hopefuls productive & busy; just give 'em their own TV Series!

MACHINATIONS of our calendar and indeed of Father Time himself neither slow down nor wait for no man. Hence, it is now the Year of Our Lord 2008, on the 9th Day of November and we have a new President-Elect in the winner, Democrat, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. Meanwhile, the present occupant of that Casa Blanca (White House) prepares to vacate the premises and ride off into the Setting Sun.

WHATEVER the polling numbers say or whatever one's opinion of President George W. Bush; it is safe to say that he and Laura, as well as Barney will be glad to be leaving that life in the pressure cooker for the quiet of a post-Presidency. And remember you Libs, that many a Chief Executive with low public esteem were later proved to be true statesmen by history. Just remember some guys named Abe Lincoln, Harry Truman and even "Ike" Eisenhower; who all filled the bill.

WE supported Bush in both elections; but even so, we had many areas in which we most certainly had our differences on many a subject. Our main disagreement came with his seemingly over anxious need to "get along" with those in the opposition party. His coining the phrase of "Compassionate Conservatism" leads our 'Hit Parade' of boo-boos.

ALTHOUGH it was however so well intentioned; its very existence implies that Conservatives are not compassionate. That is no truer than it is to assert that all Liberals or Socialists are totally altruistic in their attitudes towards their fellow man; which of course they are not.

CULMINATION of this entire previously mentioned Political dissertation is that we are now sort of back to an uneasy normalcy. The most obvious example of the election cycle is the disruption of certain jobs formerly held by certain persons. It is the time of the former-Senator, ex-Governor, etc., etc., etc. The most surprising development was what happened to failed G.O.P. Presidential Candidate, Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas.

BEING an Ordained Southern Baptist Minister, who had been employed as a teen by a local Radio Station as a newsreader; Mr. Huckabee must certainly find any public speaking assignment as being second nature to him. His talents not having gone unnoticed by the world at large; as the good Governor had soon secured a job subbing for Paul Harvey on his daily News/Commentary Broadcasts.

FURTHERMORE, Mr. Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation in the guise of subsidiary Fox News Channel came a calling with the offer of a weekly hour long political talk show, a low key, informative and non abrasive mixed bag that has hosted friend and opponent alike. (Notice we didn't say "Foe".) Music, good humor and a live studio audience (That's the best kind!) all add up to what would seem to be now considered the impossible, an original talk show.

SO far we've observed week after week of the good Padre conducting interview after interview, maintaining absolute civility with all and never once sounding like he's being neither pedantic nor preachy. Mr. Mike would have to be seriously considered for the title of "MR. CONGENIALITY" in the Political talk show game; as he is most definitely the leading exponent of civility in all we do and respecting all of our opponents.

AND it is obvious that the Fox News Idea Department wasn't ever being over-worked as they came up with the highly original title of HUCKABEE!

POODLE SCHNITZ!!
