Great Story About Split

Great Croatian TV show from the 80's based on a novel by Miljenko Smoje. Smoje also wrote a script for this show. It tells the story about Split from the beginning of 20th century until the end of WWII in many levels. One level, perhaps the most important, is historic because it shows how the citizens of Split persisted to the blasts of times in which they lived. Great thing about this show is spoken language. It is the native language of Split which is almost forgotten. The character of Mestar is one of the most layered in the history of Croatian movie, TV or even whole Croatian literature. It is probably because it contains habits, desires and temperament of all Splits citizens. It would be a sin to talk about this show and not to mention that it it also a story about foundation of Hajduk Split, the most famous Croatian football club, which was one of the greatest moments of Splits history. There is a big number of small towns in the world, impossible to compare to one another. Smoje and director Joakim Marusic made a masterpiece about one of them.
