Fuks (1999)

Fuks

8/10

A sweet refreshing comedy

What a nice film! Polish films are often either too gloomy or too funny. This one is really very sweet and refreshing, so it doesn't make you think hard or look for hidden messages. A very simple story about a crook (played by Aadam Ferency), his wayward son (played by Stuhr Jnr), their strange relations. plus love story, plus a theft of money from Dad's safe. Plus some other funny dialogs, complications, beatings and kisses. But the best part here goes every time when Janusz Gaios, playing a policeman, comes in. He is so convincing, so fresh and good, that I simply waited for every scene with his participation. Even in the small scene where he sits in his car eating, a colleague of his calls him asking for some help, but Gaios simply answers "I am not here, I am dead", continuing his snack ... but the facial expression, the intonation are so marvelous! Watch it if you think that Poles cannot make lightweight and highly entertaining films.
