Muppet Video: Gonzo Presents Muppet Weird Stuff (1985)

Review by Quinoa1984

Muppet Video: Gonzo Presents Muppet Weird Stuff

10/10

a blast from the past

This was one of the most watched videos in my collection as a kid, and it was a heap-load of fun watching the same tape years later. There's something about the segments on this tape that remind me how outrageous the Muppet Show could be while still keeping its range in the 'family' area. It's also got to be mentioned that, above all else, this is one of the funniest tapes ever put out by the Henson video team from this period. All the video has are the various 'weird' sketches from the Muppet Show, often featuring Gonzo but also featuring other guests like Dom De Louise (a very funny sketch involving aliens), Vincent Price (who sings a very 'spooky' song), and Madeline Kahn (in one of the more 'touching' segments of the video). Funniest to me are the segments that are the most cartoon-like of the bunch, the topper being the dialog-less segment where the man sitting in his living room gets visited by a bunch of different singing birds, he starts getting into the 'groove' of the situation, and then gets stuffed into his bird's cage by a huge big-bird type Muppet. There are other segments just as surreal or, of course, weird, such as upside-down singing mustaches, and of course Gonzo's un-wielding love for his chicken Camilla. Basically, if you can find this somewhere, and are doing so being a die-hard Muppet fan, you wont be disappointed.
