Lyudi i manekeny (1974)

Review by AndreiPavlov

Lyudi i manekeny

9/10

A feast of jokes from the Master with a very special Soviet/Russian flavour

The movie can be called a theatrical comedy. It consists of a number of humorous sketches presented by the best (my opinion) Russian actor of the "talkative" genre - Mr Arkadiy Raykin.

To try making the plot summary of this film means beating about the bush. And to write a spoiler here is a useless job.

The feature is priceless for any Russian man, who is fond of witty jokes that never (please note well) get rude, obscene, and so widespread nowadays "sexual". On our national level it is very possible that no other comedy will ever surpass it. Belly laughs are guaranteed from the first scene to the very last. The vote is 9 because the jokes of the film are very closely connected with the culture of Russia (and especially with the time when the USSR existed). Therefore, if watched by a foreigner, quite a lot of jokes will not be understood - even deep knowledge of the Russian language will not be enough to get it all right. Being quite an old film it still manages to touch upon the burning issues of today's world. Because it is a classic This is one of those movies that make you comfortable. You can relax and enjoy watching it together with anybody (father or mother, grandmother or grandfather, son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter, etc.) without being nervous about what comes next. Very pleasant entertainment.

Its running time is about 307 funny minutes.

Mr Arkadiy Raykin was, is, and will most likely be the best Russian comedy actor ever.

It is a 9. Thanks for attention.
