Bob Spit: We Do Not Like People (2021)

Review by pietrabr

Bob Spit: We Do Not Like People

8/10

An Angeli film done right

After having suffered watching several terrible Brazilian animated films made for adult audiences, I finally found a good film that, by the way, is like a perfect tribute and way to end the career of cartoonist Angeli. Angeli was one of the main artists who created newspaper comic strips in Brazil, starting in the 80s in that period of rebellion of the punk movement he made adult comics with boldness in a period in which the country was becoming free from censorship. I read a few of his characters' strips when I was younger in my school books, they weren't my favorite, but I liked reading them sometimes. After watching the terrible film about the characters Wood & Stock (I don't know how people say that film is good) I finally found a movie that represents Angeli's work in a much better way and has an exciting story. This film is a spiritual successor to the short film Dossiê Rê Bordosa (which is also a good animation) which focuses on Angeli's popular character Bob Cuspe. Unlike the other film, this one tries to show a more serious plot paying tribute to his classic comics and even having reference the death of the character Rê Bordosa and also how Angeli is ending his career as a cartoonist. This film will most likely be difficult to please someone who has never even heard of Angeli, but anyone who is familiar with the classic cartoonists from the Folha de São Paulo newspaper will really enjoy this film.
