Lloyd Kaufman in Daisy Derkins vs. The Bloodthirsty Beast of Barren Pines! (2019)

Review by paul_haakonsen

Daisy Derkins vs. The Bloodthirsty Beast of Barren Pines!

3/10

What did I just witness...?

From the very opening scene, it was painstakingly obvious that this was going to be an ultra low budget movie, and one that was filmed on someone's home camera to sweeten the deal. But wait, it gets even better, during the cast introduction, Lloyd Kaufman shows up, so you know it's going to be a stellar movie. Irony may rear its ugly head here.

Writer and director Mark Mackner put together a script that actually had some good parts to it. It wasn't a particularly exciting storyline, but I've sat through worse.

I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, aside from Lloyd Kaufman, yeah I've seen enough low budget Troma movies to be familiar with him. The acting performances in the movie were mostly laughable and wooden. There were a few performances that carried the movie, in all honesty.

The special effects in the movie were brutally bad. And it was pretty amazing that a six round pistol could be fired eleven times during the bank heist, not to mention the gloriously realistic gun wound effects. Again, irony may be present.

"Daisy Derkins vs. The Bloodthirsty Beast of Barren Pines!" is a low budget and home-made movie, no doubt about it. But I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movies such as this. I just happen to not be in that particular target audience.

And while reviewing the movie, I noticed that this 2019 movie was one out of five movies with the Daisy Derkins character. That was just hard to fathom that this has been going on through five movies.

Points awarded to the movie as it looked and felt like it was made by people with their hearts and intentions in the right place, just lacking aa budget to back them up. And it seemed like the actors and actresses had fun filming this.

The movie's cover, at least, wasn't as low budget at the actual movie turned out to be.

My rating of writer and director Mark Mackner's 2019 movie lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
