Fabrice Eboué and Thomas Ngijol in Case départ (2011)

Review by Thanos_Alfie

Case départ

5/10

Funny but...

"Case Départ" is a Comedy movie in which we follow two estranged brothers who are forced to travel back in time to the colonial era. There they have an unexpected encounter with their ancestors and they end up in a very difficult situation.

I found this movie a bit flat and without any real depth or engaging enough in a more meaningful way, considering the sensitive subject of slavery and some important historical issues. It felt like the comedy overshadowed the more serious aspects of the story in a wrong way. The movie attempted to blend humor with serious themes, such as colonialism and slavery, but it struggled to find the right balance. Despite that, there were a few funny moments, especially in the banter between the two leads, but the humor often feels forced. The interpretations of Fabrice Éboué who played as Régis Grosdésir and Thomas Ngijol who played as Joël Grosdésir were nice and their good chemistry was obvious throughout the movie. All in all, I have to say that "Case Départ" is an average comedy movie with some funny moments and great potential that wasn't reached. If you want something to pass your time then I recommend it but if you want something more than that then this movie isn't for you.
