Martin Scorsese in Squarespace: Hello Down There (2024)

Review by Rodrigo_Amaro

Squarespace: Hello Down There

9/10

Another fun ad directed by Martin Scorsese

If Martin Scorsese is the master and commander behind any brand commercial then one can definitely expect a spectacle to the senses.

This one he made for website management system Squarespace is lots of fun as it creates a sensational alien invasion where they're simply trying to connect with humans all over the world, either New York, Paris or Tokyo, but people are way too distracted and foccused on their daily activities...but they'll get some clairty in time.

Marty pays tribute to the new sci-fi classic, especially Emmerich's "Independence Day" and it's easy to spot the shots, angles, the spaceship shadowing across the cities, and it's fun to watch as one would never expect Scorsese dealing with that particular genre (even though he made films of nearly every genre available). And his acting bit at the ending is simply priceless - whenever he appears as an actor he steals the show.

A lovely way to sell the brand, but it's not exactly something I'd be inclined to "consume" or go after it. Only in it for the cinematic spectacle created through this ad, and the one starring John Malkovich made some years ago. 9/10.
