Chronique des évènements amoureux (1986)

Review by flyczba

Chronique des évènements amoureux

Required viewing for all teenagers

This is no doubt one of the most touching film I saw while a teenager. Made me an incurable romantic for life ! No one should be allowed to even think about starting a relationship without first watching this film. The heroes are beautiful and funny, clumsy and grand at the same time. The background history of WW II mixes the romantic love affair with the national / international struggle of Poles against Nazi Germany, and the mix is an explosive cocktail of romantic nationalism, or national love affair, or love affair / national sacrifice, pick the formula you want, that to this day defines Polishness for me. There are two images that have stuck in my memory: the love scene in the tall grass, and the surreal charge of Polish cavalry (on horses if you please) against German Panzers. Somehow, there is no clear difference between the two for the hero, and for the audience. See it whenever it plays, wherever! My only regret is that I can't seem to find a VHS or DVD version of this film.
