Don't read the bad reviews! It's from people who wanted blood & guts like Casino & those type Gangster movies! This movie is NOT that. It's more of a docudrama that telling the real true story of two very real people, told by one of them. Yes, there's plenty of killing & blood, but just not crazy like Casino. The energy and story are significantly different and move in a different pace.
This is a movie telling the story of two of the more famous real Gangsters in New York. It was fascinating. I've always loved the gangster movies especially those based on true stories.
The movie didn't substitute names, it used their real names and if you're really an American Mob junkie, you'll know exactly who everyone is that's on your screen. What part he had to play in this particular story and how it effected everyone else in the American CosaNostra. Shocking reality, not made up for added drama effects.
The actors played their parts to perfection. D'Niro was at the top of his game being 82 years old. Duel rolls & I'd often forget he was playing both parts! He changed his mannerism, his speech patterns, literally becoming the other person.
Debra Messing was wonderful as Frank's wife in that supporting role. You almost don't recognize her. All the supporting actors were really fantastic actually. They took great direction and I can clearly see where the director wanted to go with his visione. He definitely hit the mark in my opinion.
I'm so glad I watched this movie.

First "action" movie I found myself literally cracking up laughing watching. Chris & Anna had great chemistry & comedic timing when called for. All Chris' Marvel Co-Stars putting in small appearances only added to the lightness of it.
I can, without a doubt, say I very much enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. Never at anytime was I bored, did I think I knew exactly how it would end and I was pleasantly surprised at how it did end.
I get it that this type "action" movie isn't for everyone. It certainly was not what I expected, but in no way did it keep me from enjoying the heck out of it. Some folks just take their "action" movies much too seriously, they really need to lighten up a bit and laugh more.

After having watched every Rocky & Creed movie up until this one, I knew where the stories were going. I knew the background, the players, the back stories & what was going to be the struggle(s). This storyline did not fall into those parameters & fell short of being the inspiration all the Rocky & Creed movies to this point always have been.
The choice to leave Rocky Balboa completely out of this story was a failure. He would've at least been there at the funeral. He was family after all. That Sly Stallone was not included nor consulted is downright sinful since any character with a Creed name began in his imagination from the first writing of Rocky.
Hollywood is so disrespectful in so many ways. So many seen to forget where they came from or where their stories came from originally. Michael B Jordan wouldn't have had an Adonis Creed to play much less a movie to direct had it not been for Sly Stallone to begin with. How quick he was to forget all that. Disappointing. I don't think I'll ever view him the same as an actor or man ever again.
