Motorheads is really cute and engaging. I really hope there is a 2nd season.
I do have a few complaints: at the beginning the music is distracting (all great music they had to pay a pretty penny for it but too loud or thrown in or distracting, it music choices themselves are top notch). Why does Ryan Phillipe have a southern accent parking through through outside of Pittsburg? Also if the no. Got knocked up young (and she did in the storyline and is 40 with twins atleast 16 or 17 but flashbacks make it seem like she is 18 when she is pregnant) but then the other dad has a son in the same class and he likes her and tried to get her and couldn't but his kid is the same age? And the mayors daughter is the same age but she was best friends with the girl who got knocked up too young?! None of that makes sense. And that sort of incongruity distracts me a lot.
I don't get enough background on this big company vs the family that "owns the town" so it's a poor town nobody has money except for 2 rich families?
Ok so a lot of the background. Not great. But the kids. All were great actors. All had real chemistry as friends. Well cast. I mean I could get over the fact they are mid-20s and only 15 years younger than the parents IRL. I love deacon being cast in flashbacks. But like. No background on their parents. Why his brother is pretty much raising him?
Ok it's the rust belt but everyone is this into cars? Ok then
Anyway, with all that said, I finished it quickly, was eager to keep watching and really want a 2nd season! Make it happen.

I watch ALOT of TV. I go through new seasons and new shows the day they come out, I have gone through old shows season after season. And until today, in May, I had never heard of this show that came out on January.
I wish there were more than 8 episodes( however, this allowed for a season long story arc that wasn't drawn out. In 8 very quick episodes, we get to know the characters while wanting to know more.
The casting is great with the exception of LL, like left field and did not work for me (and even with scandal I still like her so it's not personal). Troian was absolutely fantastic in a big departure from PLL (and he's she has done a lot of other things since but that's the most well known) as did Brandon as the rookie. All of the rest was good casting too.
For 8 episodes there were 2 directors, they'd do 2 in a row and then switch. I really like how this played out, almost hard to tell when one ended and the other began which worked as it is a season arc and not something new each week like a lot of procedural dramas. Plus hello gotta love an Eriq LaSalle shout out!
There is nothing groundbreaking about this but it's really good with more grit than a network cop procedural, but less heady (and heavy) as this years other strong female lead cop drama (bright long river or whatever it's called as the name never made sense until the last episode so it never stuck with me).
I really hope there is more. The ending definitely leads to more seasons and not ending a a mere miniseries. I want more!

Very rarely do I think a miniseries should be longer- this is one of them. The 4 episodes are very distinct. 1&3 being the better of the 4.
The show immediately captures you attention, engages you and makes you care about the characters.
Episode 2 explains a bit of the why.
Episode 3 is... amazing. It is a masterclass in acting. Never have I seen someone so young, let alone in their first role, perform with such range, and realism, and poignancy, and honestly, this kid is a star. In all honesty, very very few seasoned actors could do as well as he did. That is a performance I will not forget.
Episode 5 is more the emotional impact on the family. It had its moments but after episode 3... especially as the ending, it left something to be desired, except the last few minutes were great.
The casting and performances were top notch. I can't express that enough. But there were a few missteps. Investigate the background a bit more. Have the cops son get more of a story and not just to provide the ah ha moment out of nowhere. That relationship was not properly developed. I needed to know a bit more about the victim (after we care about the main character to fit the narrative). Develop the toxic masculinity a bit more- where are the kids getting this why is it so prevalent and persuasive with kids so young. How li g has this been going on.
It's not the first time we have seen such drastic impacts of bullying (13 reasons why forging a path for the shock and awe results) and this has potential to be the ultimate.
It has all the right ingredients but just missed some measurements I think? Either way it's still really really good and definitely worth a watch.
