When being interviewed on a podcast, Ron Perlman said that he declined being part of this documentary because he didn't want to say anything negative because he didn't know everything that happened between the fallout between Richard Stanley and New Line. He did say that for the short amount of time that they had, he loved working with Stanley and wished that he could've stayed on the project.
Richard Stanley has said that the documentary is 60% accurate. He noted that some details happened to different people and some darker events are glossed over. He also said that, contrary to what Robert Shaye says in the film, he never had four lumps of sugar in his coffee.
According to Richard Stanley, David Thewlis couldn't take part in the documentary for legal reasons.
Famous British explorer Sir Henry Morton Stanley, who may or may not have been the inspiration for the main character in Joseph Conrad's classic novel Heart of Darkness, is a direct ancestor of director Richard Stanley.
