"Deux jours avec mon père" is a touching story of Robert, a courageous aging sick and sometimes delirious but still very alive father who is determinated to keep on celebrating his Swiss culture and living his passion for the beauty of his wonderful Swiss native land on which he grew up and to which he is deeply attached, instead of just staying in his hospital room bed waiting for death to come.
Robert's often impulsive and selfishly irresponsible behaviour - quite regardless for the people who are concretely responsible for Robert and who are reccurently put in a difficult position - will though luckily lead his son, Michel, to reconnect with him and with this beautiful Swiss land on which he grew up, too, since Michel decides to follow and to help his father make his adventure come true.
At first, the communication is quite difficult between them, since none of them really does his part of the way to the other to lead to a truly open communication but, step by step, as they climb the mountain, the ties between father and son get stronger and lead to a more open and harmonious communication, finally enabling them to share emotionful unique moments together.
Metaphorically, while the beginning of "Deux jours avec mon père" is quite foggy and it's hard to know where this film wants to lead us, it becomes increasingly obvious that it's a life path and an ascent that Robert and Michel have to do together to reconnect and regain harmony between father and son.
Although the end of "Deux jours avec mon père" is understandable and it seems that it is the film writer's choice to let the audience make their own conclusion, the end seems a bit abrupt, due to a lack of a complete and proper conclusion sequence, which is a little frustrating. In the interest of consistency and in accordance with the original subject and context of this film, it might have been better to end this film with a more complete and explicit end.
Finally, apart of some casting choices that could have been better and some criticable out of context sequences that should have been cut to make this film even better by focusing strictly on the essential subject and action, the good filming of "Deux jours avec mon père" is a brillant recommanded tribute to this beautiful Valais region, in Switzerland (CH).
