I usually like stories that make you wonder what actually happened - the kind that keep you looking forward to the next scenes, the explanations, and that shock or wow or oh factor.
However, I don't know if it's just me, but three episodes in - now starting Episode 4 - my head's spinning, and I'm getting a bit annoyed. I don't like how the story is unfolding. Maybe it's the transitions, or simply the way it's being presented. A lot of scenes keep repeating, yet you still don't fully understand what's going on. It's also hard to sympathize with the leads since you don't know why they act the way they do. And by the time things finally get explained though still not fully by Ep4, I already don't care anymore - I'm too annoyed and just want everything laid out clearly.
I'm also not a fan of the voice-overs on top of the dialogues. That's not to say the leads aren't good. They are, actually.
I'll still see this through, though. But this might be one of those K-dramas I wish were told chronologically - just straightforward and done with.
Might change my rating later on depending on how this story progresses.

Last Summer made me feel like I was living through my own memories of youth. The excitement, the awkward moments, the choices that stay with you. Lee Jae-wook and Choi Sung-eun are amazing together, their chemistry is effortless and you'll recognize yourself in their hopes, fears and small joys. Every scene between them feels real, heartfelt and unforgettable.
The show beautifully balances humor, tender moments and emotional depth. Some scenes are a bit slow, and a few supporting characters could use more development but these are small flaws in an otherwise engaging story. It's a drama that makes you reflect on friendship, love, and the bittersweet beauty of growing up. Even though it's still ongoing, it already leaves a lasting impression. The kind of story you'll carry with you long after watching.

When I started watching Last Summer I imagined it would be something funny and simple, but as the episodes went by, I realized that it was not only a romantic comedy, but also a complex drama, where the protagonists had deep pain and this affected their relationship and also their quality of life, addressing important topics such as anxiety, depression, insomnia and traumas. In the course of the series, the protagonists experience their pains, struggle to leave the past behind and be able to break down the walls created surrounded by their real feelings. It's interesting to see the maturation of the characters, where they came from and how far they got. And we also have excellent actors who can move us with their excellent performances.
This show started with an intriguing premise and the acting was pretty solid all around. Lots of well-known talents gracing the roll call, but I think the story, the pacing, and the script failed this great ensemble so royally. They earnestly tried their best to weave some life into the otherwise lifeless story, but they couldn't make up for it. Lee Jae Wook is so damn beautiful, let's just call it like it is. But he's also a talented actor, it was evident even in this show which didn't give him much to work with; it's a great deservice to mishandle what he brings to the screen to such an extent. And not just him, Choi Sung Eun (as the insecurely attached woman of the peanut house), Kim Gun Woo (the successful and lonely defense attorney), Jung Bo Min and Ahn Dong Goo (the best friend and her ice hockey player boyfriend) are fantastic, especially that second couple. But the interpersonal dynamics and character motivations are so contradictory and immature, that I was gaslighting myself trying to justify nonsensical adult people behavior. Not the least of my frustrations is the fact that Ateez, my favorite K-pop band, landed their first collective OST for Last Summer and why did it have to be for a series that just kind of lands with a lukewarm flop. I'm angry on their behalf, and I'm angry for Lee Jae Wook.
The story, the cliches, the acting , the direction - all were well yet something was missing .
Maybe the story was all about the FL but her situation nor dialogs could establish her as a protagonist. The ML, seems to be jinxed after Alchemy of Souls. He is choosing all such standard stories and directors who are unable to create a rhythm with the audience . Hope he finds better scripts and teams in futire, as I do like him as an actor.
Waste your time just for the good looking ensemble, because you will not be able to get invested emotionally with anything .
