Using both new and historical footage Chasing Red introduces viewers to the ritual running of the bulls that happens multiple times each year during the Fiesta de San Fermin in Pamplona, Spain. It follows experienced runners and a newbie just learning the running ropes, under the mentoring wing of the filmmaker, learning the best places to stand, how to run, and strategies for when things go badly wrong.
Running the full emotional gamut, this doc had me on the edge of my seat - it was entertaining, exciting, and also scared the crap out of me! Don't think I ever want to ever go watch a running with the bulls in person after some of the scenes here, but won't ever forget - once seen you can't unsee it!

Chasing Red is the only film i've ever seen that actually captures how it feels to run with the bulls. The mix of camera angles really displays the chaos at street level, the footage of injuries brings home how dangerous this is and it will leave your heart racing almost like the real thing.
As the film follows a set of very different runners with different experience levels it not only serves as a thrilling ride but also as a tutorial on the thought process a runner goes through.
This is a fine, fine piece of work and deserves the awards it has picked up.

Dennis Clancey's directorial debut of Chasing Red gives the viewer an excellent insight into the running of the bulls.
I did not know much about the bull run in Pamplona before viewing, but afterwards I can see how it requires a lot of planning and training.
It touches on every aspect of the run including the history, which I would have liked to see more of.
It was nice to see the types of people that want to run year after year. The aerial shots also added a nice viewpoint.
I would love to maybe see a part two in the future and if I am ever crazy enough to run with the bulls, I will be contacting Mr. Clancey!

This movie centres on the action at the week long San Fermin festival or the Pamplona Running of the Bulls, in Spain. It follows the experiences of a group of enthusiasts, some returning practitioners others at their first running. For anyone who has ever been, wanted to visit or simply unsure what the festival entails this film is a must.
The cinematography compels the viewer to engage in the experience, providing a realistic portrayal of the dangers involved in this adrenalin fuelled run.
A thoroughly engaging experience and a lot safer than running on the horns of the Bulls...as you will see!

Unlike anything ever done before, and with unparalleled access, Chasing Red provides an exciting and wholly accurate film on the Pamplona running of the bulls. Next best thing to actually going to Spain. High quality filmmaking skills abound with frightening and intense sequences of real runners in the streets. Cannot wait to see it again! The thing that most people do not know about is the daily grind to run every morning and get through to the end. Dennis and his compatriots explain this better than anything that I've ever seen. Four very likable running characters make you wish for their safety and happiness, and the joy they find running leaps off the screen. Just an inspirational success by Dennis, especially as a first time filmmaker.
