As a big Tyler Perry fan, I had expectations of more. The premise is great, but it was executed poorly, with characters that are so underdeveloped that they're just weak parodies. The lead actors are clearly more talented than what this story allowed. Depicting Antionette as unprepared, obtuse, and inept was NOT what I expected to see from Perry, who usually supports strong female characters. After 8 episodes, I didn't see the attorney who graduated top of her class become much more than "overwhelmed woman in a tizzy". And while I appreciate the attempt at southern humor, it was overdone. (Yes, I'm southern, but every single character didn't need to sound like Boss Hogg.) This could have been a great MOVIE, but fell far short after dragging out too long.
First: It's a comedy.
Second: It does show the good and the bad of black society. These reviews act like the things that are depicted in the show aren't that relatable. I guarantee we all know someone in our family, and/or community, that can actually fit the characters shown. It's not necessarily bad. Just life.
Third: It shows the ups and downs of juggling life choices while trying to maintain an image, family, independence, and self worth.
Folks really need to get off their high horse of judgement, and just laugh at the comedy, or go watch something. I reallllllly miss the 90s mentality.

I will continue to watch because I adore TC Carson & Terri J Vaughn. I also love Dyon Brooks on social media. But I don't think anyone is utilized well. They need to reign in Jade Novah & Jo Marie Payton's characters because they go off on their tangents too long. To the point where I have fast forwarded through them. I hate to say I fast forwarded through a lot of it because...hey, we get it...Mississippi is racist. She was having a tough time being accepted as a Black Lt. Gov. In a red state. We didn't need the mansion tour, the pig calling contest AND the apple orchard. Each segment took up a lot of the episode, along with the drawn out mystery about who wrote the note on the jam. I want it to succeed, hopefully it will go faster with the next 8 episodes. It really didn't have to take 8 episodes for this. I finished them in about 2 hours fast forwarding through the slow parts.
I watched the first episode (and the first few minutes of the second) with some of my family. It didn't really pick up for me until a scene where Terri J Vaughn's character goes to get her daughter from a party. That's kind of when things seem to happen, but then the episode is almost over. But before then, it was not all that to me. Putting my feelings aside about Tyler Perry's content, I just didn't think it was all that funny. A couple of lines here and there were amusing, and one in the second episode I thought was legitimately very funny regarding a suit. I love Terri J Vaughn, and she's the only reason I sat through as much as I did, even considering how awesome it is to have Jo Marie Payton here too. But the writing doesn't help. Not only because of the jokes that don't work, but he still writes to serve the profanity, instead of the dialogue. When you say something funny, it's not the cursing that makes it funny, it's what you're saying that makes it funny. But too much of this script is just about him still trying to show people that he's not the same Tyler Perry that he used to be, and it suffers for that. That's all that stands out when it's not written well, no matter your "work ethic". It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, not even from him and it wouldn't be fair for me to say that having just seen one complete episode. I don't think I'm going to be watching much more of it though.
This show is colourful with bags of energy, but ultimately the jokes have been done a thousand times - to better effect - and it's just not that funny.
Some scenes stretch out for what feels like an eternity and you wonder if they kept the cameras rolling until someone in production laughed and then yelled cut.
The only characters with potential are the cousin and her boyfriend whose interactions are amusing, but still not comical enough to call this a successful comedy.
The saving grace is that each episode is less than 25 minutes, so you don't waste too much time deciding if it's worth continuing through the series. I gave up at episode 6.
