A Beautiful Film that makes you think

I saw the film at Another Hole in the Head Festival and was quite impressed. This film depicts the true culture of Filipino people. The director of the film was present at the screening and it was very interesting to understand the history of making of this film. For such a modest budget the director did a great job and the people who were involved in making this film put their hearts into it. It took them four years to make this film which is a great accomplishment. The characters are very strong and the story is told in a fashion that it makes you feel wanting to know more and keep the suspense while you are glued to your seat. The visual effects in this film are superb.

The women are beautiful; and they do a great job with the fighting stunts. For these reasons, I gave this film nine stars.

DO NOT WATCH!

I was forced to watch this film and it was incredibly painful. The production values and script are so bad that it is actually anxiety inducing. I could feel myself getting more and more uncomfortable as the film went on, especially as it took to stereotypes to portray Americans. Its incredibly difficult to follow this film since the passing and character development are so chaotic. Not only that, but the decisions behind much of the production values are uninspired and make little practical sense. I would encourage everyone to avoid this cliched mess of a movie. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities.

Vampire film with a message

This is a film set in contemporary times with a deep connection to Filipino culture and folklore of the older times. Add in themes of politics, religion, colonialism, sexuality, and gender and you have this film. This is going to be a film that people will study in Asian American Film Studies classes in the future and talk endlessly about the Asian American existence in the modern American Western world. INSTANT CLASSIC. For all others who just want to be entertained this movie moves fast with lots of monsters and mythical characters challenging the journey of the main characters and their opponents of progress towards a better world of acceptance by mainstream thought.

The main creature featured in "Vampariah" is called an aswang. Its a self segmenting vampire of Philippine mythology that spout bat-like wings and uses a long piercing tendril tongue to eviscerate victims and drink blood the embryos of pregnant women.
