I got scammed

I'm so mad that this movie make me to write a review for the first time ever.

Just like many people I got scammed by the influencers. I Really appreciate the effort and trying found footage concept first in inda. But the screenplay is worst.

Why is mangai is playing with everyone in this film expect to kill ? She is opening the zips of the tent, running around the tent, throw the bottle but She is so shy to be on the camera. And the jump scars are the worst. You will see it miles away. The actors did a great job, the technical team did a amazing work. But the concept and screenplay are worst.

A Disappointing Descent into Uninspired Thrills

Murmur" (2025) attempts to deliver a psychological thriller with a focus on suspense and mystery, but ultimately falls flat due to its weak plot, uninspired execution, and lack of genuine thrills. The film's attempts at creating tension and intrigue are hampered by predictable twists, underdeveloped characters, and a general lack of originality.

The film's narrative revolves around a series of mysterious events that unfold in a secluded setting, attempting to create an atmosphere of paranoia and suspense. However, the plot feels convoluted and lacks a clear sense of direction, making it difficult to engage with the story or connect with the characters.

The performances are underwhelming, with the actors struggling to bring life to their poorly written characters. The attempts at creating tension often feel forced and artificial, failing to generate any genuine sense of unease or suspense.

The film's visual aesthetic is bland and uninspired, lacking the creativity and artistry needed to create a truly immersive and unsettling atmosphere. The soundtrack is equally forgettable, failing to enhance the film's emotional impact.

The film's attempts at social commentary or psychological exploration feel shallow and underdeveloped, lacking the depth and nuance needed to make a meaningful impact. The ending is predictable and unsatisfying, leaving the viewer with a sense of disappointment and wasted time.

Overall, "Murmur" is a disappointing thriller that fails to deliver on its premise. Its weak plot, uninspired execution, and lack of genuine thrills make it a forgettable and ultimately frustrating cinematic experience.

Decent for a Tamil horror film

While the plot was weak and the acting fairly average, the film still managed to deliver some solid jump scares. Given how low my expectations have become for Tamil horror films-thanks to the many cringe-worthy horror-comedy hybrids-I was pleasantly surprised.

Unlike most Tamil horror movies that awkwardly try to mix comedy with scares, this one took a more serious approach, which I appreciated. Some scenes genuinely spooked me and reminded me of Paranormal Activity in their execution.

That said, the dialogue and its delivery left a lot to be desired, and the casting could have been stronger. There were also several moments where logic went out the window-one of those cases where the story would've ended if the characters had made a single smart decision.

As someone who's seen countless Ouija board scenes in horror films, the basics are pretty clear-you form a circle, not a straight line. But in this movie, the scene felt completely off. Everyone sitting in a neat row just for the sake of camera coverage? It was laughable.

Still, despite its flaws, I'd say it was a decent attempt at a straight horror film.

Very bad.

A half baked attempt. Its not even basic horror movie. No atmospheric feel, no horror mood. But the promotion of the movie was top notch very good strategy. A simple the movie director say pregnant women please don't watch this movie. That's the curiosity and social media marketing that hype got intense but the film was not genuine. One of the worst movie I ever saw. . . . . . the same day I saw another found footage horror film missing couple 2024 which was really creapy and disturbing at the end. That an example of how to made an found footage movie in a low budget. Murmur is said to be 2.5crore budget look like it does not cross 40L. Visually its not convincing for the budget.

0/10!

This movie is like seedless grapes, there's everything in it except the main part, the ghost.

The Ghost was so mysterious that it's even not in front of the camera for the audience.

I think the film makers forgot to add the Ghost element amidst all the Js and Cs.

This movie is like black tea in a cola bottle looks similar but tastes anything close to cola.

Tbh this movie is a utter waste of time.

As a person who watch horror movies enthusiastically this movie is not worth itt.

It's just soo dumb like even my cousin who studies in Lkg didn't flinch till the end ..

The better suggestion I would give us to watch prist instead of this ....it holds good then this

Signing off !!

The biggest scam of all time

I wonder who gave this movie 7+ rating. The worst movie i have come accross ever in any language. Came to make a comment creating an account just say "director stop making films". At least once if you have gone jungle trekking before making the movie u would understand. First from where did you get water for 3 days. Who sleep in the jungle in the open air. Who sleeps on the floor on top of leaves just like that do u even know how many insects and deadly creepy crawlies out there. Is it a picnic to walk about in the jungle just when u please. Who will charge ur equipments cameras for 3 days. First rule of the jungle we dont walk about at night. No ant, cockroach, dear, elephant or any damn creature in the so called jungle except for the ghost and 5 useless characters. Director give ur camera to a school kid or a you tuber to make a better movie. Producer if you have money to waste just give it to a orphanage already. A bloody shame not only for horror genre but also for the art of cinema. Disgraceful and disgusting to the max.

The slowest, dumbest and most boring horror movie

Till the climax of the movie, all the characters do is sleep, sleep and sleep. In the name of found footage film, which is poorly edited, the pace only picks up near the climax. So if you feel to watch the movie even after reading this review, you mean that you are ready to waste time in your life. Still if you want to watch it, start the movie, watch it for 15 to 30 mins and directly skip to the climax.

There is only a little amount of acting effort, no writing effort, no musical effort, no editing effort from the cast and crew. Also, technically this one is the weakest of all horror flicks.

This movie is supposed to be a short film and now it is one of the biggest scams in cinema on people with respect to time and money.

Found footage movie in Tamil?

Found-footage or POV movies may have been a rage several years ago in the West but it is still a new concept in India. Even slasher movies are unknown in India. Ouija boards are a novelty even in the West so the director had an uphill task using it in this movie. This movie offers nothing new that Western audiences have not seen. For its intended audience in India, it can be fun though. Older viewers who are used to formulaic masala movies may be shocked (no songs!) but younger audiences who are used to Youtube and social media will take to this movie like duck to water.

Things I did not like: Foul language used by almost everyone, even by the non-Tamil guy. No date/timestamps on the videos.

Things that could have been better: All characters seem to be voiced by easily recognizable dubbing artists used by the advertising industry; No explanation of the science behind how the slider moves on an Ouija board or the popular belief that it is driven by spirits.

I liked: The humour.

Atmospheric horror brilliance!

The best horror film I have watched in a long-long time. I really liked the resemblance to the "footage style filming" of "paranormal activity" (the original) which I consider to be the greatest horror film ever made. Murmur is a bold attempt with a sense of realism and impeccable visuals and camera work. If you like over the top, unbelievable, almost child like horror cinema, then this film is not for you, but if you appreciate the details and out of the context, bone chilling experience; then it delivers.

Just slowly sucks you in for a high voltage horrormadness. Footage style filming makes it even more so engaging.

Don't miss it. Go watch it.

Garbage

I usually support Tamil horror films, but Murmur is nothing but a massive letdown. The whole movie feels like a gimmick wrapped in fancy packaging. The story is weak, the acting is average at best, and the "found footage" concept is poorly executed - half the time you can't even understand what's happening on screen.

What makes it worse is the way this movie is being pushed everywhere online. All the 4-star and 5-star reviews clearly feel like paid promotions. Don't fall for the hype. It's not horror - it's boredom with background noise. Waste of time, waste of money.

Kne single word is garbage.

Illogical Rubbish!!

Cheap and tacky copy of various, B grade, Hollywood horror movies, made into a D grade, Tamil movie. Tacky script, direction, and acting.

Totalky illogical. If this is a, lost and found footage movie, assuming that every scene was shot continuously on one or two cameras then did the camera, edit the scenes by itself from one scene to another?!!! - Now THAT'S spooky!

Dumb characters (and actors) walking around in an unknown forest at night looking for each other, s reecging at the top of their annoying voices...Nonsense.

The girls are useless and only there for cheap thrills under the guise of 'acting'. The guys are seriously pathetic cartoon characters!

All artists swearing, drinking and smoking trying hard to appear 'progressively Western'

Embarrassing movie and a waste of time. The forest in the dark was much more interesting to watch.

Useless Nonsense - Totally Avoid !

Murmur (2025), the directorial debut of Hemnath Narayanan, is the kind of film that makes you question your life choices - specifically, why you chose to sit through nearly two hours of shaky cam nonsense and narrative dead-ends. Billed as a "found-footage horror experiment" in Tamil cinema, Murmur ends up being less of an experiment and more of a cinematic endurance test that fails spectacularly on every conceivable front.

The premise, while admittedly promising on paper, is wasted from the first frame. A group of Chennai-based YouTubers head into the spooky Javadhu Hills to investigate local paranormal myths. Sounds intriguing, right? Unfortunately, the film quickly devolves into an exhausting montage of bickering group members, low-resolution night shots, and attempts at "creepy" moments that inspire more eye-rolls than chills. What could have been a thrilling, atmospheric horror flick instead plays out like the unedited hard drive of an amateur vlogger with a broken tripod.

Let's start with the biggest sin of Murmur: it is boring. Horror films are supposed to make your skin crawl. This one just makes you check your watch. Despite its relatively short runtime, the pacing is glacial. Entire scenes are spent watching characters argue about camera angles, squabble over who left the tent open, or wander through the forest in near silence. Every time you think something is finally about to happen, the screen cuts to black, or worse, you're subjected to more shaky footage of trees. For a horror film, there is remarkably little horror. No tension. No suspense. Just... forest.

The film's dedication to the found-footage format is not just over-committed - it's downright obnoxious. There's no reprieve from the constant handheld visuals, the jarring cuts, and the often incomprehensible camera angles. What might have worked as a stylistic tool is here used as a crutch to avoid real storytelling. The camera shakes so much it feels like the cinematographer was filming while being chased by bees. At a certain point, you stop being scared and start feeling motion sickness.

The characters - if you can call them that - are another major downfall. They are written with such little personality that it's hard to care about any of them. Despite some attempts at giving them individual backstories, none of them evolve or even behave like real people. Their decisions range from frustratingly dumb to laughably illogical. Why does someone go off into the woods alone after hearing ghost stories for two hours? Because horror tropes, of course. And when things finally begin to go wrong, the reactions are so unconvincing it's almost as if the cast themselves weren't aware they were in a horror movie.

Technically, Murmur does show some polish - but it's like putting high-end paint on a crumbling wall. The sound design has a few interesting moments, and the cinematographer (ironically credited as "Shadow Frame") deserves credit for managing to make dimly lit trees look mildly atmospheric. But these technical elements are wasted on a script that has no direction, no coherence, and no payoff. The supposed scares are limp and predictable. The climax, if you can call it that, is a confusing mess that tries to be ambiguous but ends up being absurd.

Worst of all, Murmur is smug. It acts as if it's reinventing the horror wheel - like it's smarter and more meaningful than it actually is. In reality, it's a film that confuses vagueness for mystery and silence for suspense. It's frustratingly self-serious, devoid of any humor or charm, and seems to punish the audience for expecting entertainment.

In conclusion, Murmur is not just a bad film - it's a fundamentally useless nonsense, one can totally avoid. It fails to deliver on its horror promise, wastes a potentially exciting setting, and subjects viewers to a tedious and unrewarding experience. If you hear anyone praising Murmur for being "different" or "bold," understand this: different doesn't always mean good. Sometimes, it just means unwatchable. Skip this one - or risk becoming the ghost of your own wasted evening.

A Stunning Reinvention of Found Footage Horror

Every once in a while, a film arrives that reminds us why we fell in love with cinema in the first place. This found footage horror film is one of those rare experiences-a fearless, atmospheric, and emotionally unsettling journey that grabs you from the very first frame and refuses to let go.

From the moment it begins, the film crafts an atmosphere that is rich, immersive, and unrelenting in its tension. The director displays a masterful control of tone, using silence, shadows, and pacing to build a creeping sense of unease that becomes nearly unbearable by the final act. There are no gimmicks here. No overblown effects or manipulative sound cues. Instead, we are treated to a slow-burn descent into terror that feels painfully real and grounded in emotional truth.

The story is deceptively simple: a group of individuals sets out to document a subject, only to uncover something far more disturbing than they ever anticipated. But it's the execution that elevates this film to something truly exceptional. The handheld camerawork never feels forced or artificial. It's fluid and organic, drawing us into the characters' world with an intimacy that traditional camerawork rarely achieves. When things begin to unravel, the camera becomes our lifeline-capturing the raw fear, confusion, and desperation with visceral intensity.

One of the standout aspects of this film is the incredible performances from the entire cast. Every line, every reaction, every moment of silence feels authentic. These aren't performances you watch-they're ones you feel. The actors blur the line between character and reality, delivering emotionally honest portrayals that make the terror all the more believable. Their chemistry, their breakdowns, and even their quieter moments carry an emotional weight that lingers long after the film ends.

Sound design is used here not as a tool of manipulation but as a vital storytelling element. The subtle hum of static, the distant echoes, the unsettling silences-each choice enhances the tension without ever drawing attention to itself. In this film, what you don't hear becomes just as terrifying as what you do.

The director deserves particular praise for not just creating fear, but respecting it. There's a genuine sense of restraint throughout the film that shows a deep understanding of horror as a genre. Instead of forcing scares, the film invites the viewer to lean in, to listen closely, to anticipate-making the inevitable moments of dread hit even harder. This is horror done with thought, with care, and with an unflinching dedication to atmosphere and authenticity.

What's also commendable is how the film explores psychological unraveling. The horror isn't just external-it's internal. As the narrative progresses, we watch the characters lose their grip on reality, on trust, on each other. It's not just frightening-it's tragic. The emotional breakdowns feel deeply personal, making the horror resonate on a human level.

Visually, the film is haunting. Whether in daylight or darkness, the frames are carefully composed to create a sense of disorientation and suspense. The use of natural light, minimal effects, and raw textures gives the entire film a gritty, immediate feel that enhances its realism.

This is not just a found footage film. It's a love letter to everything the subgenre can be when it's placed in the hands of someone with real vision. The director has crafted something bold, original, and deeply affecting-something that will undoubtedly inspire future filmmakers who dare to tell horror stories in new and meaningful ways.

A must-watch for anyone who craves intelligent, emotionally charged horror. Not just recommended-essential.

Best horror in recent times

A Bold and Brilliant Leap for Tamil Horror Cinema

This Tamil found footage horror film is a game-changer. Set entirely in a remote, eerie forest, it delivers an experience that's intense, immersive, and terrifying in the best way possible. It's not just another horror flick-it's a masterclass in atmosphere, pacing, and genre execution. Tamil cinema hasn't seen many attempts in the found footage space, and this film proves exactly why we need more.

The story begins simply: a group of young adults venture into the forest, armed with cameras, either to document something mysterious or explore a local legend. At first, everything seems normal-just friends joking, walking, filming. But soon, the forest begins to feel... off. The trees seem too still. Sounds echo strangely. The group starts to experience things they can't explain. The tension creeps in slowly, and it never lets up.

One of the film's greatest strengths is its realism. The found footage format is used brilliantly-not as a gimmick, but as a storytelling tool. The shaky camera, the off-center shots, the natural lighting-it all creates a sense of authenticity that pulls you in. You genuinely feel like you're watching real footage discovered after something terrible happened. The fear feels real because the reactions are raw and believable.

The forest is not just a backdrop-it's the villain, the mystery, and the mood all rolled into one. The sound design is exceptional. It uses silence, distant footsteps, and unexplainable ambient noises to mess with your head. There's no dramatic music to guide your emotions-just the natural, unsettling sounds of the forest. And that makes the fear feel grounded. You're not being told to be scared; you just are.

The performances are another standout. Each actor feels like a real person, not a character. Their interactions, arguments, and panic don't feel scripted-they feel lived-in. That's essential for found footage to work, and this cast delivers. Whether it's a shaky confession to the camera or a desperate scream in the dark, their emotions feel authentic. You believe their fear, and that makes all the difference.

What's especially impressive is how the film handles horror without relying on cheap tricks. There are no predictable jump scares or over-the-top ghosts. Instead, the horror is psychological, slow-building, and relentless. The suspense tightens with every passing scene. You start noticing strange things in the background-blinks and you'll miss them-and that paranoia builds until it explodes in the final act.

The climax is everything you want it to be: chaotic, terrifying, and emotionally gripping. It doesn't resort to flashy effects or melodrama. It stays consistent with the grounded tone and delivers a payoff that feels earned. Even after the credits roll, you'll find yourself thinking about the sounds, the darkness, and the things that were never fully explained. And that's what great horror does-it stays with you.

From a technical standpoint, the film is remarkably well-made. The editing is sharp, especially considering the challenge of stitching together believable "found" footage. The transitions feel natural, the pacing is tight, and the use of lighting (or lack of it) is masterful. Every decision feels deliberate, designed to heighten the sense of dread.

In conclusion, this film is a massive win for Tamil horror cinema. It proves that you don't need huge budgets, star power, or CGI to scare an audience. All you need is a good story, committed actors, and a filmmaker who understands fear. If you're a fan of horror that respects your intelligence and plays on your primal fears, this one is a must-watch.
