Too slow didn't execute

I love kdramas and I have seen the main leads in other shows and I know they have great potential However, it seemed wasted on this show, the main reason was it missed opportunities to further develop the characters, and needed more action from them. The emotions didn't translate as well and couldn't connect on a deeper level with them, needed a narrative of who they all were in the past. Parents death, brother suicide, relationship broken (this did not need so much air time) - do we/can we fix this or move on? Poorly executed.

To sum it up, they all felt like walking at the same speed - and couldn't tell them apart. Would have liked to see stronger reactions, timings at key points but it was too slow towards the final 5 episodes. Started well then crashed.

A shame as I love the cast.

Great beginning, middle, andddddd Flop

Great series all the way until the end. Too much left unresolved. Some of the storylines resolved horribly. Acting was good, which made it bare able in the end. I was left think, ok there should be 2 to 3 more episodes. Loved Park Bo-young and Choi Woo-shik. The way each Episode ended was kind of confusing with time flow. So watch all the way to credits or you'll miss something. The soundtrack was excellent and was another plus for the series. I really think Melo movie could do with a second season. So if you're looking for a short series that's just okay, this is it. It won't get you hooked on K-dramas, but it will help past a boring weekend.

If you enjoy the full spectrum of relationships, definitely worth a watch

I really enjoyed this series. While the title implies melodrama, it is definitely not overly melodramatic. But it is about relationships and contains the full spectrum - new love, broken love, familial love, grief and heartbreak. It will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. And even though it is only 10 episodes long, it does a great job of providing ample time to fully develop each of these sub-threads and seeing them thru to a satisfying ending.

I felt the chemistry between both couples, Moo-bi & Gyeom and Joo-ah & Si-jun was fantastic as was the other relationship pairings - Gyeom & Jun; Gyeom & Si-jun and even Gyeom/Jeong-hoo and Moo-bi/Joo-ah. I especially enjoyed the short scene in ep8 with Gyeom and Si-jun. I felt they nailed the representation of a long time, close male friendship perfectly in how they interacted in that situation.

That said, I did feel the writers were very lazy with the setup for the tension between Moo-bi and Gyeom. Especially in the confrontation between them in ep2. There is no reason he wouldn't have just explained what happened and settled the issue right away.

I also wasn't thrilled with the all-too-common kdrama 'stalking' trope used in ep1 and somewhat in later episodes. While there was nothing sinister about it, she does clearly tell him to leave her alone several times and he persists in ignoring her requests until finally wearing her down. Not a great example on male / female relationships.

But I recommend just ignoring those details and enjoying everything else in the series. The acting is fantastic and the storyline engaging. Even though it is very early in the year, I feel this will be one of my favorite kdramas of 2025....and if not, that only means we are in for a great year of entertainment.

Disappointingly boring

After reading the 10/10 reviews I am left wondering if those who left the reviews watched the same movie or were friends and family since it wasn't my experience. I was really looking forward to this series and even though it started out slow, it kept my attention early on thinking... this is surely going to get better. Unfortunately, it slowed mostly towards the last few episodes and left me feeling depressed and bored wanting to skip sections. I found the acting wasn't the problem, it was the delivery of the story line and the lack of realism in the characters interactions. There is sections of just them getting on with work and life which was didn't really develop the relationships of the characters and it was very boring. Gyeom didn't speak about his family problems with Moobi as normal people would to promote understanding. Sijun walked all over Jooah to get what she wanted and he just acted like a depressed puppy and unrealistically he let her. Unfortunately I can't get my time back but I can without a doubt say that I regret not turning it off sooner. It just didn't improve. Maybe I'm just not into depressing, sad, slow shows but that's the only way I can describe it, all the way through. There is no feel good, no realistic character development and it's a shame since the story line could've been so much more. I would rather watch paint dry than watch this series again.

A Good Drama but not Best

There is always a problem with the dramas with no villain or any revenge story that they don't seem to be engaging easily as they have to had a really good story to engage audience. Melo Movie is a good drama with 10 episodes which deals with few problems of adulthood like making a living and being independent. It's modus of profession is Movie Industry. When you watch it from the starting it does seem to entertain a bit then you may find yourself fast forwarding it a little bit. The characters were good the actors did a excellent job especially Park bo Yong. She being a versatile actress did a great job in delivering the character and same could be said for Choi woo shik. If you ask me it was more of a coming of age drama rather than romance as it enlightens the relationship between parents and their children and siblings, it touches the the concept of depression related suicide attempts. Overall the drama characters is good but the story was not engaging ans was hefty to finish, you can watch it if your are fan of Park bo Yong aor Choi woo Shik.

Beautiful Character Study and Exploration of Love

Some movies are exciting and keep us late into the night, eager to see how the plot will unfold next. Others are a slow burn but can be watched over and over because of all the subtle details and commentaries you discover rewatch after rewatch.

Melo Movie leans closer to the latter. If you are looking for a plot driven story, I urge you to consider watching this through a different lens. Because this movie has authentic, deeply layered characters and takes us on a beautiful exploration of love and relationships.

Choi Woo-shik's talent is well utilized as the male lead as he expertly balances his bubbly charm while masking deep-seated struggles of loneliness and sadness. Park Bo-Young is also well-cast as the tough-exteriored female lead who secretly harbors an unmet need for love. Even this description of both lead characters feels shallow and unjust as they each display all of the emotions and facets of a real person, oftentimes with a simple look or gesture. You feel like you know these people or, better yet, ARE these people. The rest of the cast similarly have their distinct personalities, motivations, flaws, and strengths. Kim Jae-Wook, in particular, is a scene stealer, showcasing a bittersweet brotherly love. Each episode unveils a new layer to each of them as well.

The second deceiving quality about this series is the implication of what a "melo" or "love" story consists of. As someone who consumes both Western pop-culture and plenty of K-Dramas, we often come to expect a love story to focus on the lead couple's trials and tribulations on their way to (hopefully) a happy ending. This series does plenty of that, but through the relationship of the lead couple, we are also introduced to an interwoven ecosystem of the relationships around them, and you start to realize this story is about love in ALL of its iterations. Many will ask, "Does this have a happy ending?" Without spoiling it, one can say yes and no. Much like life, some relationships flourish while others end. But each love story: parent/child, romantic, platonic, sibling - they all evolve. This is not a story where Evil is defeated and Good triumphs, or even where the underdog beats the alpha to get the girl. It's a very realistic, grounded exploration of relationships.

For some, this could be hard to enjoy because it does not offer the escapism that we may come to expect from fictional TV. Instead, it is a mirror, showing us what love looks like in every form. From the characters to the cinematography, to the music, and the color scheme: every artistic choice of Melo Movie tells a love story. It reminds us that love can hurt us, love can leave us, but love can also heal us, and love can bring us to new adventures.

Melo Movie reminds us that love - for all its ups and downs- is a gift. And in this world, where headlines often highlight acts of hate - I'm happy to slow down for a bit and reflect on love with this series.

It's not a Romantic Series

Disclaimer: I'm bad at English so I use AI to translate my review.

Summary: Just watch it and let it sink in because, in reality, it's complex and not overly melodramatic.

This series is intricate and tries to tell more than it can fully explain. You can enjoy watching it more than once because there are many symbols for you to decode. If you're a hardcore fan of series that delve into the philosophy of life, you'll love it and want to rewatch it, at least once more.

The romance part is just a way to lighten the heavy nature of the story and serves as a tool for the writer to tell the narrative. In the end, the series tries to take us on a journey to learn about the differences and the subtleties of life's transitions. I think the Male Lead (ML) performed excellently, living up to his reputation, while the Female Lead (FL) was standard. I didn't feel any disconnect in their performances.

I rate this series very highly because I don't see it as a romance series. If you're looking for a good romance series that will make you cry over a romantic relationship, there are definitely better ones out there. But if you're searching for a series that explores philosophical themes of life, this one will definitely be top of mind. It even gives off more of a J-Series vibe than a K-Series one.

nice film but long and drawn out

As an American, I love Korean K-Dramas. As with this film, a decent story line but moves very slow for American standards. However ! The filming, locations and the actors are always excellent. These films show us the basic culture and differences especially with relationships. The film was progressing but it did not clear up the interactions by the couples in the last 2 episodes. Listen, I realize the Koreans do not express themselves as openly as other cultures but we are talking beautiful S. Korean women with hair like the Sirens in Greek mythology. The Korean actors need to step up their approach to some of the most beautiful women in the world and tell them how they feel. The men and women in these dramas all hold back and the endings as this film are proof.

A missed opportunity

This could have been a really engaging drama, but unfortunately, the script is uninspriring.

The lead male character is as flaky as hell and is very poorly cast as a romantic protagonist.

The potential romantic attachments are unconvincing and the actors are often portrayed with the mental responses of five year olds. The fact that the lead actor failed to explain to his love interest the reason for his disapperance for a five year period, was enough to have ruled him out as a boyfriend forever. Alkso, the sub-plot involving an old failed relationship was sleep-inducing in its banality. My strong advice is don't bother to watch this unless you enjoy being bored to death.

Shouldn't They be Almost 40?

The timeline on this is hard to follow, but it seems like the actors should be late 30s, almost 40, but they act more like late teens early 20s.

The premise was cute, but by episode three, I've lost interest and I keep checking how much time is left.

It's the same old same old misunderstanding type of rom-com that I've seen too many of.

It also feels more like an anime format than a movie.

Good for high schoolers, I guess, but at 60+, I'm out.

I always have a problem here with character limit. Everything is either too short or too long. Don't ask me why someone thought that was a good idea. Thank you for your patience.

A Perfect drama which mesmerized me with it's beautifull writing !!!

As soon as I saw the movie cast and I found that this movie is directed by hotel del luna director and written by our bellowed summer writer I started waiting for this drama.

This is by far the best overall drama in recent time which doesn't stretch anything and makes viewers feel all kind of emotions.

All the characters development is great and their bond with other is just awesome especially the special moments between two brothers.

Incredible Production Design

There are quite a few reviews of this series here related to the plot and character development, so I won't add to those. However, one of the things that impressed me the most about this series was the production design. I went to the full cast and crew list, and even checked Wiki, trying to find who the Production Designer and Cinematographer were, but couldn't find any information. They worked as a true team coordinating one of the best color palettes I've ever seen used in a film/series. Every shot throughout used aqua greens and teal blues against deep crimson flourishes, there were yellow and golden halos in multiple scenes, and everything tied together to form incredibly beautiful sequences. Snow falling from the sky in dark alleys highlighted by golden lights. The lead characters standing in a field of yellow sunflowers, dressed in pastel aqua green shirts with light blue skies above them. Even the post-it notes on the planning boards were of these same colors. That takes immense coordination. It's just a beautiful series to watch. I hope the Production Designer and Cinematographer are up for some awards. It's richly deserved.

Choi Woo-sik is just adorable...

...in this series and steals every scene he's in, but his cuteness isn't all he offers as the second half gets deeper and he really gets to show off his acting chops.

If you're expecting something silly & lighthearted, you'll get that, but way more too, as there are explorations of loss, grief, depression, loneliness & vulnerability.

The series follows lovable Go Gyeom, (Woo-sik) a seemingly happy go lucky young man who can charm the birds from the trees, who falls for Kim Moo-bi, (Park Bo-young ) an aloof assistant director who carries the weight of the world on her shoulders, and who isn't willing to let love into her life for fear of being left.

Is Go Gyeom as carefree as he seems? Why is Kim Moo-bi as she is? The supporting cast are excellent as we delve into the family & friendship dynamics of the 2 main characters. I laughed & I cried, I cried quite a bit actually, but I found this series to be delightful & at the same time, thoughtful & meaningful. Shout out to the writer & director for pulling this off.

I absolutely recommend this.

Overall swoon worthy

The storyline is very good. It's funny, romantic and full of life at the same time. The two love dtories shown are just amazingly put together by the makers and the cast. How they navigate through life and everyday matters. Especially the second lead did so well. I'm impressed. The romance is a bit usual korean drama type but i guess that's fine with me. The vibrant theme of the series is also heart warming. Tge comedy also makes you laugh. Not like gaus electronic level but it's good to have a little bit of laugh with this rom com. Moreover, it's just another good kdrama that everone who loves romcoms should watch.

They call it slowburn romance

I would suggest to not watch it if you are a busy person and want a good series with excellent story.

If you have time and you want to pass it somehow, then please read this review before watching it.

Will try to keep it simple!

I'm kinda disappointed with this show as I had high expectations.

First of all, story was quite boring and predictable.

Although I like slow burn romantic drama but quite frankly, it was boring.

Casting was also not UpTo the mark neither does the acting of choi woo shik. Loved him in our beloved summer but in this whole show, except last episode his face showed no expressions.

There was no chemistry between main couple. They just looked like practicing their lines. However, the second couple had more chemistry and sometime overshadowed the main couple. Even in some scenes, second male lead looked more good than our male lead. So, the casting was a huge issue.

Even in acting, second couple was excellent. "In my opinion, the stories of the main couple and the second couple should have been swapped, as the second couple's story felt more like that of a melomovie.

Disappointing story line despite the good casts

I am a huge fan of K-Drama and I love Park Bo-Young and Choi Woo-Sik so I expect a really good drama. But until the last episode, I found that this Drama was so boring and the storyline was a disappointment. I still don't get the wounds and the trauma that the lead characters have were so hurtful to them. Well, I guess I have been through more than them, that's why I cannot relate to it.

The chemistry between the leads was awkward, I felt cringed when I saw the kissing scene.

A few episodes before the end were so boring and brought me to push the speed 1.8x button. I still finish it since I love Park Bo-Young's acting, especially in Daily Dose of Sunshine. I was disappointed she chose this horrendous project.
