In a down-on-its-luck port city the world's most skillful assassin does one last job before retiring to an idyllic life of ... just kidding, obviously; within 30 minutes of his retirement some bad guys set him on the path to a decade-spanning vendetta. The story is pretty goofy. The script can't seem to decide whether or not it wants to be taken seriously and/or how overt or illusory to make its supernatural implications. Important plot points are just retconned into existence via expositional dialogue or cutaway flashbacks.
But at least there's lots of violent bloody action and the antagonists rock some decent Oni masks. It's all style and no substance but enjoyable as over-the-top fun.

"Demon City," is a Japanese revenge thriller directed by Seiji Tanaka and based on Masamichi Kawabe's manga "Oni Goroshi." The film follows Sakata (Toma Ikuta), a hitman who, after surviving an attack that killed his family, embarks on a relentless quest for vengeance against the gang responsible.
The movie delivers on its promise of intense martial arts sequences, gravity-defying stunts, and choreographed fight scenes that keep viewers interested. Even for those accustomed to the over-the-top action of Indian cinema, "Demon City" offers a familiar experience, but nothing beyond that.
Even the background score, composed by Tomoyasu Hotei, known for his work on Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill," was not as intense, though the music complements the film's tone. The cinematography is noteworthy, with clear visuals that don't strain the eyes-a common issue in many modern action flicks.
However, the film's foundation feels somewhat weak. The antagonist's character development is limited, and the plot contains noticeable holes. Addressing these issues could have elevated the film to a higher standard.
In conclusion, "Demon City" is a high-octane action film that delivers thrilling sequences and strong performances. While it has its shortcomings in narrative depth, it remains an engaging watch for fans of the genre.

Sh#tty screenplay, sh@tty acting and sh#tty direction.
Background is also not that impacting and most of the time doesn't match with the situations. Nothing new you can expect, everything is outdated, action sequences are not even that great, stakes are not even high, villian is also mid with no great reason why he became villain. Atleast action should be delivered to audience the way they promoted the movie was purely due to action but it lacks it. 4 stars because if you literally nothing to watch, you can kill your time with this, else no need to watch if you have your watchlist stacked with good taste.

I really wanted to like this. First 15-20 minutes made me feel like it could be inspired by a mix of John Wick and The Crow (original). They raised the stakes by what happened to the protagonist but we never really get the payoff from the build up. He is inexplicably invincible, even when he wants you to believe he's hurt and sadly the villains never really die. Speaking of which, they are evil to the core but then they have little back stories to make it seem like they have some sort of honour. There are some cool action sequences, and performance around the Samurai culture but overall I found this movie weird and ultimately disappointing. I had to watch John Wick after to scratch the vengeance itch it gave me.

Yes there are many things about this film that are not true to life, but that does not mean this film should be any less enjoyable. Masashiro Higashide plays Kanta fase, the main character here who is sent a mission to kill the head of a clan. Unfortunatly five men in very creepy looking but at the same time cool masks do something unspeakable, and leave kanta in a coma. Somehow he survives by share luck and as he regains he functions he must go on a quest to hunt down each of the masked men and make them pay for what they have done. The action was good and pretty bloody. Good effects were used here. Sure redemption stories have been done many times before but this was a very entertaining one with good acting to add.

I have seen bad movies before, start to finish, and it is not often that I actually consider stopping before it ends.
The sheer number of deadly blows and stabs that the main character receives, yet still continues 'figthing' with speed and strength - not to mention surviving - has made this worse that some of the worse cartoons ever.
I used to think that even the worst movie can teach me something, but this one here changed that idea forever. There were so many ways in which they could have saved this from being an absolute pile of ridiculousness that I am thinking of actually starting making movies myself, and even if I get hid in the head by a horse and I lose my brain's ability to maintain bodily functions i'm sure i would still do a better job than this.

I was expecting a decent movie, but the reason this one didn't meet my expectations is because it is too unrealistic and inconsistent. You can't wake up from 12 12-year coma and go straight into a physical contest (fight), or be able to stand on your feet and this lasts for months. The main character goes even further - he has so much blood, he can never die from blood loss (which can be said about both "The Raid" movies, but the thing is everything there is made less excessive than this movie and just better), but in one moment he can barely standing, the next he is acting like John Wick on PEDs. Don't get me wrong, everything is filmed well enough, the actors are good enough, it is just the entire concept that is poorly represented.

Watched this with zero prior knowledge-no trailers, no comics, just vibes. And honestly, had a blast. Sure, the plot had its fair share of questionable moments (let's just say 'suspension of disbelief' is working overtime), but who cares when the violence is stylish? Think Kill Bill meets a particularly chaotic anime fight scene, with some gorgeous one-take shots that made my inner film nerd very happy.
Special shoutout to Takuma Otoo and Miou Tanaka, who absolutely stole the show. Meanwhile, I spent half the movie wondering why the lead looked so much like Brett Yang from TwoSet Violin. Just me? Anyone?
Overall, ridiculous but ridiculously fun. Would recommend.

What was even the point of this show? We know almost nothing about the main character and there's a lot of grotesque content that serves no purpose other than to be 'edgy'
The plot line was hard to follow and I didn't really care who won or not the entire time.
The action wasn't well done and parts of it just made me roll my eyes. At the very least I expected good action scenes. But the main character can take on multiple people sometimes but only one or two other times. Acting was also sub par probably because the actors also didn't know how they were suppose to portray the 2D characters. Disappointing and not enjoyable.

Worth a watch, but don't look for much dialogue from the leading role, as he gets about 12 sentences during the whole movie. Lots of action at the start, and the usual mayhem at the end, but it cools off a bit in the middle. Nevertheless, there are some well-choreograped fight scenes throughout. My main reservation with this film is that the supposedly human anti-hero comes a cross as superhuman in his ability to not only soak up masses of physical damage to his body, but also to appear unaffected by it and to continue to dole out highly acrobatic, energetic punishment to his foes. His miraculousl almost instant recovery from his supposed 12 year coma also took some swallowing. Nevertheless, worth a watch , if only for the martial arts mayhem.

This movie redefines the meaning of words like "senseless" and "silliness". It's well beyond bad. I believe that the best word to describe it is "idiotic".
There's nothing to appreciate in this movie. The story doesn't even attempt to make sense, it's just there to justify the blood and violence (yet, somehow, it manages to fail miserably even for that minimal purpose). The casting is horrible. The acting ridiculous. The action scenes are really boring. Overall everything feels predictable and quite stupid.
I was unfortunate enough to see it from start to finish and ended up scrolling endlessly on my social media apps of my phone. I hoped that something could be salvaded in the end, but I was wrong.

Why ???? Like why ?.? Why would you try to recreate or give your Homage to these classic and fail so bad, so disappointed 😞 the climax was just meh. 1.5 hr of disappointment, no proper background story, few actor were good but not all, action sequences below MID. There was no build up for the villan too, If you still wanna watch this go ahead but don't have any high expectations, especially if you are a fan of classic likes John Wick, Kill Bill, The Crow.. This one was just bad. Didn't accept this from Toma Ikuta. Also the music was disappointing, the climax music was suppose to hype up the scene but just failed.

So this is latest Asian action flick , which most films play out their cards out with kung fu moment n gun fu hall way action scene.
Demon City need so much more to compare to other classic, here the review: First hand the movie suffer of revenge story, Cause when come to that ye got give structure n of course doing dirty jobs, meaning what fav revenge story all time is Kazoo Koike n Kazuo Kamimura Lady Snowblood(not film, manga) or something better Lady Vengeance. Worse's there's no character development of many em, could ve something of the inner circle of bad guys like the mask, but it was low budget action flick.
Now the fight sequences weren't that good, no stealth or something bloody (there some) From the recycled factory, to the tower they went all Raid which is good n Crackaboom perfect, by the time enter the building battling the henchmen with machete adding an upgrade a la scorpion.
So Conclude is not perfect or good but entertain just got nothing to do, but ye know the film reminds me of Cannon movie Avengeful Force. But with redneck take.

Demon City has many good elements in it. IT is a sleek Japanese action film based on the aged old martial arts revenge trope. The action, fighting, and violence are the strongest aspects of the movie. It has a sleek and cool look. The issue with it is that the backstory is too confusing and the relationships of the characters is also confusing. The elements that relate to the characters revenge against the people who wronged his family are the best parts but the main characters lack a certain depth and dimension. They do not provide enough gravitas to make it seem like they are just going through the motions. Could have been better.

Its an interesting storyline that reminds me of Beekeeper by Jason Statham. About vengeance and revenge. A guy that has past occurrences that led to his actions.
Some would be annoyed by how invincible he is but thats what a "demon" they believed. They mixed this with supernatural stuffs. I enjoy this! Some people just can't believe the possibility. This is no Captain America background, infused with formula. This is truly like possession by demon. It is in Japan, that they believe in that kind of folklore I believe. Enjoyed the acting, dress etc.
The ending is what I really want to know of what it means.

Whenever you set out to watch a movie like this one, you need to sign an implicit contract with the filmmaker. You accept the terms of the movie beforehand, which means you don't question them later.
We always do that when watching animated, science fiction or fantasy movies. So this one is no different. It is as far fetched as you could possibly imagine, but if you have accepted the T&C beforehand, then you can sit back, relax and enjoy some really fun entertainment.
This is a Japanese, hardcore version of John Wick. It is bloody, and even though it is shot in hyper-realistic mode, its storyline isn't meant to be realistic, nor even plausible. It's a stage for the numerous action sequences, which are very well choreographed and filmed, with gallons of blood flowing, and bad guys that are REALLY bad and won't balk at killing anyone - and I mean ANYONE - that's in their path.
The title already tells you that this city has at least one demon, and while the bad guys are all obviously impersonating demons, you get to a point where you start wondering if the "good" guy (who's a ruthless killer himself) isn't an actual demon. That would explain why he manages to survive some of the most unlikely - and nasty - wounds. Yet, he is never portrayed as a demon... but you get to wondering nonetheless.
As I already stated, the action sequences are well made, well lit, accompanied by music that's appropriately angst-ridden to support them. The carnage, however improbable it gets at some point, is never boring.
I really enjoyed this one. It's the kind of stuff that would make Tarantino proud.
